1.1 servers?
« on: September 22, 2011, 02:03:34 am »
Well, I'm a noob at Trem, and as such my best contribution to the alien team is building when the humans are full. Unfortunately 1.2 broke and wouldn't start, so I played granger in a 1.1 server with a bunch of [][][][][][][][][][][][]'s in front of the name. I eagerly set out to building, first moving the hovel to a comfier location near the OM. Then some dragoon comes up named Debelisk or something of the sort comes up and tells me to put it back. When I refuse, he kills me. I tell him that if he wants to build he should be a granger rather than a goon camping at base. I get killed again, and he forces another player to do his bidding, and after that he keeps saying I should get deconned. So I shrug, every game has its asshats. So I decide to move an egg to the middle bunker (we're in atcs) to serve as a forward base as I saw in the Alien Base building tutorial that's stickied in the tactics section.

I deconstructed the egg that was in the base (there were 2 left without it anyhow) and set off to build it. Now some admin/mod personage rolled it back, I forget his name. "Dude, why'd you do that? I was relocating it closer to the front?"
"You can't do that"
"why?"
"Because I said so"
Now naturally I'm starting to get pissed, when someone else remarks
"This isn't a democracy"
And then the Debelisk person kills me again.

So please help me out here. Is trem a democracy? Are all 1.1 servers full of control freaks like this guy? If so why do people hate 1.2 so much?

Thanks for any information for my confused noob mind.

are there any "official" 1.1 servers anymore?

even so, odds are that you were on a private server.  on such, whatever the admin says goes.  that is also true of gpp's us1, but they have publicly posted rules and such, and is generally not so petty as to use admin powers for a failed newbie forward. i dont play 1.1 so i'm no use in finding a "fair" server.

trem is really not a democracy.  tis no problem, because you'd be hard pressed to find very many games that are.

people do not like 1.2 for a variety of reasons.  i've seen a lot of reasons listed, but it mainly seems to boil down to the changes on the alien team.
Note 4: The best, although not always easiest, way to deal with trolls is thus: do not respond at ALL in the thread.
Main Rules
4.) No spamming or advertising (includes useless multi-posts and bumps.)
6b.) Do NOT harass other members.
  6c.) Do NOT troll!

* Undeference is much more interested in gpp not working for you than some assholes being assholes in 1.1
Need help? Ask intelligently. Please share solutions you find.

Thats what we need, helpful players, not more powerful admins.

on 1.1

join [][][][][][][][][][][]AA

It's where i play and theres a relatively nice community there.

I think the asspolery is more down to the fact that new people are rarely seen anymore, so people have forgotten that newbs need help.

Just go on AA and ask someone to show you how to build. Someone should be happy to help.

Or if you dont want to do that, make sure that if you join a game thats already got a built base, ask if you can build first (people get annoyed if they spent half of the game building, and someone comes along and start moving structures around.)

Also, at the start of a new game, obviously noones built, so it may be worth waiting for a new game to start and then building to get complete freedom.

But i think asking for help is your best option.

@amz181 As a matter of fact, I think that WAS the server I visited.

@Undeference Some windows error on my school netbook. After a reboot it worked again, my best guess is that trem doesn't like the Atom's onboard graphics or something.

Try [][][][][][][][][][][][]][][]BB - It is pretty much the same except it has modded kill messages.

*Try Aussie Assault if ur near Australia.

*Try wrath newbie training server, but people who play there are usually not noobs but people who play just because there are robocookies (bots).

*Try In to the Wild if you're near it.

Try to get a server with low ping preferably.

* = Lagged server (lag correction not enabled so aiming ahead is required. It is recommended not playing on a server with more than 150 ping as it becomes harder to play.)

With AA and BB servers, with that player 'annoying' you is probably 'probability' that you met him and he was angry at that time (or always angry). I dont see many of those kind of situations often and this is my 5th yr on trem.
