I have an HP Pavilion dv6t quad edition laptop.
Specs:
Quad core i7 @2.0ghz
8 gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 6770m GPU, overclockable
15 inch 1080p screen
USB 3.0
9 cell battery that gets 8 hours battery life when doing basic stuff with the Intel HD 3000 switchable graphics on

You can get a version of this for $1000 no problem. It won't have 8 gigs of ram probly though.

Gaming: Around 40 fps on Crysis 2, at 1366 by 768 (or something) and advanced graphics on (lowest settings, still looks better than anything else)
Black ops gets like 60-80 in multiplayer 1366 by 768
50-60 singleplayer same res

Tremulous.... Well, it can go up to 333 and hold it until you get into a spammy place with rets and stuff. Then it goes down to like 290.

Only thing is they are soo not reliable, this is the third one that I've sent back and it only *sort of* works (webcam broke, weird power managment issue, CPU fan broke) so I have to send it in to fix it. It's pretty much brand new, but the repairs are under warranty, obviously. Don't get this if you don't want a hassle.

Do bear in mind that General Scott doesn't have a fucking clue about anything, a recommendation from him is largely worthless.

Wow, you're in a good mood. Who the hell are you anyway? I don't recall ever seeing or hearing your bitchfagness anywhere else... I guess that's a good thing.

Aww, thanks musty.

If you're going to spend silly money on an HP laptop i hear their elitebooks are rather good, my experience of pavilion dv models is that they're overspecced and underdesigned junk.

asus makes some good lappys, my netbook with a slow atom keeps trem playable with 30-60 fps. i'm sure an i3-i7 processor would get the job done much more smoothly.

For the 1000$ you should be able to get an i5 with at least 4G RAM in a reasonable configuration.

The computer I have is the highest specs you can get for the price. Period. Maybe not best quality, but an Intel i7 is an Intel i7.

So, with little understanding of what you need from a laptop, you went all out on the specs, not necessarily understanding what half of them mean in practice, with no consideration for reliability or build quality? What do you do that requires an i7(which family and model, btw?) be crammed into your laptop?

Screensize does matter.

15 inch, 1080p. I don't mean to sound like an idiot but... Just putting the "best bang for buck" option out there...

Whatever, I'm not posting anymore here. This is a forum full of trolls that flame you the instant you actually try to help someone. No wonder these forums are mostly dead.

I actually did some browsing before posting and most i7 laptops end up far north of 1000$.
I'm in Euroland though: hardware has always been at a premium here.

The HP Pavilion DV6-6B50EB has an Intel Core i7-2670QM (2.2)Ghz and 8GB RAM, I could find it for 999€.
Current exchange rate: 1.00€ = 1.37562$.

HP's site totally sucks.

You can always try (but I still don't recommend this)

Except for my netbook, I've built all my computers myself.
