battlezone_final released!

Changes:
  • You can now go outside.
  • Some minor texture changes and fixes.
  • Hopefully increased FPS by using more caulk.
  • Modified default base layouts.
  • Fixed tunnels to allow Tyrants.

Get it here.

Ok, uploaded it locally and to the }MG{ server.  When I try to create a local server or vote on it from the }MG{ server, It just says battlezone and nothing will load.  Locally it says can't find maps/battlezone.bsp

I can call it from the command line by battlezone_final and though it's not presently in rotation (it will be saturday for the day, among others) I expect the full name in the rotation list will allow it to work.

However, presently people are unable to vote to change to it to check the map out.  Is there a way that I can modify the file to give people that opportunity, should they decide to take it?  (either that or I've done something terribly wrong :D )Granted it's beta/final and that shouldn't necessarily be worried about yet, but as it is a community tested map it would open up more of the community to trying it out, should servers admins choose to do so. (now I really hope I'm not doing something stupid with the map!)

I tested modifying the title in battlezone_final.txt with no luck, mostly to prove to myself that I don't know what I'm doing.

I played b2 and I liked it, though I too felt the coridor was a death trap.  I can't wait to try this out with the changes you've made (my ping to derelict is too high :( ).  The time I played it the humans moved their turrets, then teslas up the central cooridor til they controlled all of the map but the hallway (which was almost useless in terms of base building or fighting big aliens, cept for spamming) and the top level of the alien base.  I don't see how that strategy would work here.  Very nice improvements, I see both teams trying to take that top section IMO.

And those beams up top are gonna make some dretches dizzy :P

The map works fine on Derelict. If you modify any files in the pk3 people using the original will likely not be able to connect to your server (if sv_pure 1 is set).

Remove the older versions of the map.

oddly enough, the map doesn't work...
I put it in the base file and go to Tremulous and refresh the game and go to Battlezone and press "create"
but then nothing happens... why?

haven't checked but in most situations like this it's the lack of a .arena file. Happens with both of my maps (gloom3t/gloom_b1) as well.

The work around:

console: /devmap (or /map) mapfilename
n game name: Xiane

Start Tremulous, open console, and then type :
/map mapname

Where mapname is the name of the map you wanna play

heh we authors need to get in the habit of making the .arena files to compliment the maps. To be honest it completely slipped my mind with gloom3t as it's this tiny little script file that tells the game that yes this is indeed a map for trem :)

BAsically open up your tremulous directory on your computer goto dir base, then Scripts. Create a text file whatever.arena. Insert:

Code: [Select]

{
map "gloom3t"
longname "Infested Pump Station"
type "tremulous"
}

and save it (be sure it saved as .arena not .txt.

Trem then should recognize it when you do the normal create method.

*Note: This is for gloom3t, you'd have to replace the map line with battlezones filename or gloom_b1s filename or whatever. OR just use the console commands as presented above and wait til we authors stop forgetting this little file :)

Likewise multiple maps can be listed in one arena file.
n game name: Xiane

sweet, it works now, thanks  :)
okay, becuase people already said the bases are too close, I'm going to say less important stuff:
you know when you first get spawned? You face the wall, that's not very good, because then the person won't know what's happening when he/she starts
and also, in the alien's base, the gate isn't fully closed. There is a little gap where I can kill an acid tube...
