So you've got this awesome gun, right? Only it's not a gun, it has "cannon"
right there in its name. How
isn't that awesome? And what's more, it's named after
the arch enemy of God. Although "Beelzeblaster" or "Baal's Balls" might be a cooler name for it, you are now the proud owner of a
lucifer cannon.But what's this? A

is attacking your precious base! No matter, that just means you'll have a chance to test your new weapon! So you charge, and fire, and charge, and fire, and charge, and fire. When the dust settles, the fallout stops glowing, and your skin turns a sickly shade of green, you look around and admire your handiwork.
But gasp! Your base has been completely decimated, with all the structures gone or smoking. The

looks fine, though. See? It's even doing that "HREHHH!" thing they do.
That "HREHHH!" is alien-speak for "thanks for making my job easier!"
Unless you
really know what you're doing...
NEVER defend your base with a lucifer cannon.A lucifer cannon does a crapload of damage per shot; a fully-charged blast does the most damage of anything in the game. These shots also move really slow, which makes them easy to dodge. Aliens attacking your base can dodge, but your structures can't. That would be pretty sweet if they could suddenly go Transformers on you, turn into a Ferrari or something, and drive away, but
they can't. And even if the blast hits a wall instead, it does splash damage. This isn't a weapon made for defending bases, it's made for
destroying them. (Try it sometime. But with the alien base.)
Use a lasgun or mass driver instead. Shotgun is fine too.
This goes for flamers too.TL;DR: Don't.
