we need to replace "TremZ" with a new name that conforms to the following the design goals:
- the name must be unique (ie., names like Deluge and Overflow are already taken by irrelevant projects, and are therefore rejected)
- the name should be word that is not already strongly associated with something, as defined by the results from internet search engines (the name is preferrably a previously non-existent word, and nothing relevant is found when searched for via search engines)
- the name should be creatively composed: if the name came from a minute of thinking by a less than 20-year-old person, then it most likely sucks; the reason for this is that more mature people catch up on the immature decisions of immature people (for example, Alien Killers)
- the name should sound epic when pronounced
a couple of additional, not so important design goals are:
- the name should be rather short and rather easy to pronounce
- the name should not raise a pronouncication controversy (ie., Variator, TremZ, etc.)
a common mistake people make in naming the project is that they chose a name that historically relates to the project or contains "
legalese", but resembles absolutely nothing to new people who are not familiar with the history or the said "legal" terminology:
- TremZ was used (as i suspected!) because it was thought by the developers that the project would be the last fork of Tremulous
- without a doubt, A new dawn also has the background thought of the developers' opinion that something refreshingly new is coming with the project; this name actually also fails at the 3rd point of the list of primary design goals
the most secure way to create a name meeting the listed criteria is to weave new words, possibly from existing word pieces. for example, one could look up a list of words (a dictionary) and selectively gather words or word pieces that sound epic, and full words from those later on. here's a tip: foreign words often sound very interesting in english (look up a list of foreign words).
a choice of mine is:
Arbitry.
as an example for word weaving: someone gave me a list of words of an unknown origin (language): kokon, linnan, menet, menetae, profumo, rokat, rokin, rokka; and my mixture of these is:
promekat.
we also somewhat require a new name for the development team. i propose
Rendbeni Technologies.
