Eh, hey wasup. So I believe a clan to be different from a guild, but then some other guys said it was the same and it wasn't blah blah.  And I want to be clear of doubts.  if anyone can help well umm, help?
Thanks!

No. A guild is essentially a union. A clan is a family or group of families.
And when applied to gaming, they can mean any damn thing the user means, especially, generally assholish, elitist cliques.

Oh, I see. thanks for explaining, So if I want it to be a guild more like... I'll say some words of the speech I made, [GG] Guild is a place for friends, for enemies, for dogs and cats, but overall its a place where you can say GG. :'D

In online gaming they are essentially the same thing. i.e A bunch of douchebags finding security in numbers to further whatever collective goal they set for themselves. A guild is a clan that for whatever reason does not like the stigma associated with the word clan and thus sought out an alternative in the English language.

In the traditional sense guilds were trade unions of civilized folks united by a common goal; whereas clans were tribes of unshaved barbarians united by blood ties (kinship and war).

You could also go with: Affiliation, Alliance, Assembly, Association, Brotherhood, Bunch, Cabal, Camp, Circle, Class, Clique, Club, Commonality, Community, Company, Comradeship, Confederacy, Corporation, Coterie, Crew, Cronies, Crowd, Federation, Fellowship, Flock, Fraternity, Gang, Gathering, Herd, Horde, Host, Jam, League, Lodge, Lot, Mafia, Mob, Outfit, Order, Organization, Party, Partnership, Posse, Rabble, Ring, Sisterhood, Society, Sorority, Swarm, Syndicate, Union and so many others that I'm tired of finding them for you.

Given that many people in them are jerks, if I made a clan called the Circle Jerk Brotherhood, that'd be pretty redundant, right?

:O I didn't ask for so much things xD lol okay, umm... Well if Undeference is right, a guild is what I want it to be? Well I want a guild to be different from a clan, brotherhood, etc.  is that okay? I am not talking about guilds from old times or brotherhoods or stuff that looks alike, Just In trem I know you're trying to help but um, I didn't refer to that or maybe My words did but my mind didn't :O oh too like, Empire and Kingdom eheh.

In online gaming, you'll see Clan more often in FPSs and Guild in RPGs.

Whether you should use one or the other is, mostly, a matter of opinion. My advice to you is just go with whatever you prefer. As you can see (I'm assuming you can see), you'll always find people who dislike it or who are more concerned with criticizing the very idea of naming the group of your online friends than with how said name sounds.

EDIT:

You call it redundant, I call it a 'heads up'!

So...maybe in Trem is like North American Guild would comprise clans from Canada, Mexico and the U.S.; the European Guild would include clans from France, Spain, etc.?

Sounds interesting.
