Tremulous tournament 2014 (Hosted by Unknown)
« on: February 24, 2014, 08:18:51 am »
Tremulous is a dying and nearly dead game which I why id like to announce that the .:|Unknown' community will be hosting a tournament sometime in early April. Anyone can participate but in order for contestants to receive their prize they must have a steam account. This tournament will take place over the coarse of 3 days, with 32+ steam games to be handed out as prizes for winners of different games. If you would like to know more or keep up to date on this upcoming tournament visit our site.

People who register for the tournament by march 12th could have a chance of being randomly selected to receive a game in our pre-tournament contest.

NOTE: registration is not required to participate in the tournament its just so we can get a rough estimate of how many people to expect and to have steam ID's in advance to send games to winners.

To answer your first question virus yes, no earning it, I'm feeling a little generous, the tournament itself though every prize handed out will have to be earned.

To answer your statement about the server, its a freshly set up server in which we are still fixing up, updating and possibly upgrading our server hardware in order to support a larger group of people Approximately 40-50 people, without lag issues, I want to say the server is currently in Dallas, TX but we are planning on moving it, probably to the east coast to overall make it more ping friendly to as many people as possible, i assure you that the server will be looking more "friendly" by the time the tournament begins.

P.S. If you know where i can find a up to date tremded I'd appreciate it, I've been having trouble finding one since MG's site went down.

i volunteer to help in preparation for the tournament, by offering (primarily game-related) coding, testing and debugging expertise, and offering to oversee the organization of the tournament from a computer-system perspective. (my spare time is scarce, though.)

let me start by asking: which version of Tremulous is planned to be hosted, and which client distributions will be primarily supported and encouraged? for example, what about VoIP support (for example, for streaming music)?

66.150.121.205 resolves to v-66-150-121-205.unman-vds.internap-nyc.nfoservers.com, location Ashburn, VA, United States. Dallas should have lower latency for Aussies (but worse for Euros)

I wouldn't call it "up to date" but since you specifically mentioned MG, have you tried kdude63's archive?
Need help? Ask intelligently. Please share solutions you find.

Thats what we need, helpful players, not more powerful admins.

thx for offering but we got 3 people already working on it.

the tournament will be on 1.1, as far as clients don't see why it wouldn't support any clients, our site has a link to tjw client for anyone who needs it http://unknownclan.net/clients.html
VoIP i honestly have no clue ill look into it though, I'm always open for recommendations or suggestions.

Oh, AppleZ must of moved it. I was planning on moving it to the east coast anyways.
I have not tried there. Thanks for the links. or if you have a more update date one ill use that instead, i thought mg had the most up to date tremded, i guess i was misinformed. lol

so, regarding the software setup that will be used to serve the tournament, tell me all of the technical details that you can think of (and reasonably believe to be of interest to me).

Good Luck, you'll need it. Trust me. Tremulous isn't a very newbie-friendly game because the first thing you spawn with can die in half a second to each other.

STATUS?
when does the pre-game organization begin, and where (in what form)?
when is the first match expected to start, and how much time is it expected to last?

will there be room for spectators?
don't forget to record demos of full games.

Thinking of which, I was planning (ish) to ask you how to get server-side demo recording/playback. The common patches for it don't work
