Any possibility of a SMACK or SLAP feature for administrators?

See someone doing something inappropriate, !smack userid

I've used this feature in CS and a few other games and curious if it is possible with Tremulous. As an admin/op of a server, I would love it!

I see the smack feature knocking the player a couple feet and private messaging the user with a notice of some sort. Maybe even some sort of damage (no kill though).

Just curious...

True, but it would come in handy to get a player's attention.

!ban playername 5 *SMACK*
with tjw's server. It will definitely get their attention, and since it only bans them for 5 seconds, it's about as useful.

admins might abuse it.. but its better than them abusing the kick.. sounds good to me.. might work better than just spamming the PM... if they realize whats going on anyway..

Actually thats not true. On many games with a slap system, i saw more Slap abuse than Kick abuse. As a matter of fact, Kick is a bit too far...when you start kicking players others players notice it. But slap is often more sneaky...so some admins love to use it...they know it s extremly annoying for the victim, but it is small enough for others players not to react to it. Moreover when you kick a player, the admin have to wait till the player reconnect to start again. With slap, the admin can make the players bounce around a room endlessly...or slap him from time to time when he least expect it.

Seeing your previous post which is about a ban i would say you re not talking about what we call a "slap function" in online games. Theses slap functions push a player a few meters away (and sometimes does some dmg). This is intented as a warning for people who doesn t behave well. However some admins use slap for their personnal enjoyment. That's was the goal of my previous post.

In my experience slapping is never very useful in an admin situation. If used against people you know its always taken as a joke, if against other people its normally taken as admin abuse and generally encourages them to misbehave further.

At the end of the day most griefers etc are out for attention. "Slapping" them will only give them more attention and heighten their enjoyment. I've been adminning various games for 7 years, trust me on this.

Slapping is a toy, not a serious admin tool.

The only useful slap leaves your footprint on the victim

I'm not sure why the focus is on abuse... If I assign an admin, that admin can abuse any command in his/her arsenal if he/she chooses. It's my job as Op to set rules and tend to the admin upon notice of abuse. I find the slap command to be useful and just wanted to pitch it as a possible inclusion.

It's an attention getter. 2 slaps/warns then kick. Most new players don't even notice private messages or chat notes, but if I jar them a few feet, they may notice.

Nah, they are far more likely to think WTF hit me, or LAG SPIKE than oo the admin wants my attention. Unless people have been exposed to "slapping" before, they generally have no idea what the hell is going on. Especially if they are a complete "noob" to the game. If they do know whats going on, then the chances are, as I said before, they are out for attention. Slapping gives them exactly what they want.
