Suggestion for TJW's admin thingy
« on: September 03, 2006, 10:39:51 pm »
there should be a log of all bans and kicks, and the when a player joins, it should inform all admins that the player has been kicked in the past, and why.
also it would be nice if there was a way to add data about a player, so I could say i think they *might* be a dconer or just a noob, but they quit before i was sure. the future admins know to watch out for them.

just an idea.

that might cause some major abuse. Even between admins. New players might never get a chance...

You mean like the log accessable from !showbans, but perminant?
No.
Think of space issues.
Plus every so often it would go 'Mwa has entered the game.'
'Mwa has had 1 30s ban: Piss Off bitch! :x Added by: Lava_Croft' or words to that effect. :P

Personall, I wouldn't care if they had a history. If they've had problems, but play well, I'm fine. If they fuck up again, I ban 'em.

Effective, no?
awr.

Its nice if admins just communicate about banned players with eachother.. you don't need something like this if there is communication.

a player could be kicked hundreds of times for being an asshole, but by changing there name no-one would know its the same person, so they wouldn't get banned.
just my opinion.

It is not really needed.
On our server we talk to each other and don't care about if the kicked from last week come back again.
Remember a kick is only a timed ban .)
We rarly hand out bans, why should we? If there is some griever that really wants to hurt your server, not even a ban would keep him/her from doing it again and again.
The only solution to that is a drop-rule :)

*G* it takes a bit more than getting just another dyn-ip, if you do it the right way.

nope if you have an ISP with lots of users you easily get out of the ban ip range

That depends on how far you are willing to go with the range and if you have setup alternative ways for your regulars to connect .)

when the next release is out everyone will have an ID from tjw's mod, then we will be able to ban them as well.
also, i think the ID should be either generated from your hardware or whatever, so they cant be changed, or at least encrypted, i don't want someone to spoof my IF to get admin powers.

Ehrm... you do know what happened to the guids used in et & etpro, right?
There is no protection against it, especially when everything is opensource.

It would be worthless for plain kicks. Say some idiot is annoyed that someone else keeps killing them and calls a kick vote. Now every time that person joins the game I'm going to get flooded about how they were kicked by a vote?

For normal bans, it would work if previous bans remained in the !showbans list and the number for the ban were given. It would also be nice if there were an indicator like "this user has the same name as ban #xxx". Of course, to save screen space it would all be cryptic. E.g.,

Quote
BobDeconner connected (ban #126, #127, #128, #129).
Bonnon connected (maybe ban #220?).

Of course, name finding functionality would be nice already. I want to be able to search for a name in the ban log to see if someone is supposed to be banned.

the !namelog is very useful for that, there is a way to get around it (new ip and guid if you have one), but i don't think anyone will bother.

That is only kept until the end of the current match.

I think it keeps up to 50 players in the database, but on servers like SST, that expres per match.
