Other tremulous mods?
« on: September 17, 2006, 05:40:58 pm »
Is there any other game you would like to see have a trem mod?  There are sevral out there that have great potetial.  UT and Halo PC were the first two I thought of.  I also kinda wondered about Half Life 2.  Which games would you want to see modded?

I don't see the point of spending so much time and effort for cloning Tremulous while it is standalone...

...What's the point? I can see modding TREM, but making a trem mod for another engine is just... extremely unnecessary.

id will probably release q4 source, but we have plenty of time before that happens. they only release last generation engines, so carmack needs to do some more magic before that can happens.

a good base for trem is an engine that is somewhat modern, but runs well on most hardware, and is free in both senses of the word, currently, that is q3 and q3 only

I'll dispute that. There are plenty of bases that meet that qualification. If you're willing to put the work into it, look around. Hell, try Marathon. Replace the map format with one that supports more trigger types, more events, some actual scripting, arbitrary weapons and textures, and you can make a Tremulous clone that runs on hardware Tremulous is currently too high end for.

ok, i may have exagerated a little(ok, more than a little), but the point was that a lot of the engines that have been suggested (halo, half-life) would actually make the game worse than it is now, and take up a lot of time with a complete rewrite.

An engine, not a game:
Wouldn't a pure RTS Tremulous game be the coolest thing ever? We have the models, it would be thing of 2d-izing them and inputing the unit values (+ a lot more stuff i know, but this is the most important)

Check it out

Maybe we should start a community project to work on a real RTS version of Trem. Lol.
Stop it. Seriously.

omg... genius.

edit: but notice on the "games" list of that engine, they all sound lousy :P 1/2 of them are marked "unplayable", and most have very small communities.
