Bull.  I don't know about you, but WE have females in our armies.  And, just in case you hadn't noticed, Tremulous is a GAME, NOT REALITY. (As you wrote with caps, I decided to as well OKAY)  As such, we can liken it both to reality and fantasy.  From both points of view, we do have females fighting in battles.  Hell, maybe the girl got caught up in the war, or was some scientific experiment, so was genetically modified specifically for battle (maybe in a way that men couldn't be?).

Don't liken a game to reality.  Its like saying an apple and an orange are the same.

You could have the player's name printed on the back of their shirt as a start, and eventually have selectable armor, face style, hair style, skin color, armor color, and finally selectable gender.
