Pulse, Gloom, or both on SST?
« on: October 30, 2006, 11:15:30 pm »
I personally love pulse, and like gloom, but some other players dont like one of the maps. We will have to have one beta map to fill this maps hole, so it will be either one of these.

I don't really like Gloom.

I've never actually played Pulse with other players, but it certainly looks interesting.

pulse is okay
gloom2 would be okay if it isnt too small. there may not be enough space in the starting bases to use all the bp

personally, i would kinda like to see gloom3t (otherwise known as infested pump station) on sst. it might be a little small, but not by that much

gloom_b1 is alright. No to gloom2, no to pulse.

People like my ports!

I feel loved....

pulse - If the map was not constantly the same gameplay EVERY time it'd be a good map. The problem is 99% of the time humans are stuck using the front door, aliens take the control room. Due to the sheer fps drop around the control room and the fact acid tubes attack you through the walls it's very difficult for non higher end systems to effectively use the map.

gloom2beta2 - is a decent map but as priorly mentioned might not be such a good map for so many bps. However once people get use to some of the tricks of the map people might like it more.

gloom3t - To be honest I don't see gloom3t working with so many bps and players. It'd be an interesting votible but in itself until I get around to nobuilding the ledge in human start I could see with so many players and bps that base being pretty darn unstoppible.

gloom_b1 - now this map I could see on sst with the bps. It's simple, sparse and shouldn't be laggy despite the 50 odd players. Only problem is it's a map designed about being able to effectively hold your start base. There's not many mid field move points so it comes down to sheer player skill to defend your bases as there's no real advantage to either side. But it is a first beta and isn't vis'd properly so likely won't make it onto sst.

I've NEVER played a real game on Pulse. It looks so large that it's an automatic alien victory, though on SST with so much BP and so many players it might not be too terrible (a justifiable reason for a hummie sub-base? No wai!)

Well, I played one game, but it was just humans trying to build in the alcove before the big door leading into the base, aliens camping the vents beyond.

Boring + yelling at someone to open the farking door so you don't get massacred gives it a Jurassic Park feeling, but it wasn't worth it.

Dont forget alien tendency to build the OM in the water tank.  OM cannot be killed, and the game quickly loses its fun.  I do like all the visuals in pulse, its a very interesting map.

I honestly only know where the water tank is from making a local game and running through a level to see how it is.

A human can kill the om in there, i have done it.

Ususally it is left defenseless, so just pop in an armory, repeater, and telenode, then spawn, and kill it.
