before you connect, go to server info and look for g_friendlyfire 1 or 0
1=on
0=off

Most servers, or at least the good ones, post it on their connect screen.

If you don't feel like checking the server info, and can't be bothered to remember which number goes with what (I forget if 0 or 1 means it's disabled?), here is a simple solution: before joining a team, ask in allchat if ff is on or off. Usually, you'll get a crapload of answers that indicate if it is.

Under no circumstances start shooting/pouncing your teammates wildly with no regard for what's currently happening in the battle around you, then type in caps "OMFG im so sry dude, i didnt kno ff was on1" (Trust me, I've learned this from experience! Admins apparently don't appreciate it.)

When on human team, i find shooting someone standing on med once with blaster. this is NOT recommended, only if noone wants to tell you.
BTW you gotta wait till they have been on med awhile, so youre sure they do not have little ebough hp for a 1shot.)

dont even think about doing the same on aliens team (too big chance of a 1shot kill XD)

usually, i consider ff on as deafult, till i find out different
there is no point in wasting ammo at your teammates anyways. ^^

How about asking the people on the server?
99% of the time they will TELL you.
That 1% is an indicator you don't want to play there.

At best, after asking twice it's 50-50  :P

Clean your rifle's clip on the guy next to you. If there is a votekick on you, FF is on. That, or the guy is a crybaby.
In both case, the ONLY thing you can do, is decon the reactor.

Multiple times recently someone has joined a game and asked if friendly fire was on. They were answered. They ignored the answer and asked again after several seconds. This usually gets repeated 3 or 4 times before people start ignoring the guy.

Of course the person teamkills and claims they didn't know friendly fire was on.
Need help? Ask intelligently. Please share solutions you find.

Thats what we need, helpful players, not more powerful admins.

Well.. asking is better than shooting someone to find out.. just always assume it is on.
Eventually if you NEVER see a "blabla was TEAMKILLED by blablabla" message, or you see other people shooting people then it might be off.. but really.. if you're that concerned about team damage you might need to just work on your aim a bit more.

It allways boils down to this, doesnt it?

I dont get what the big hubbub is about this. Look guys, ff was made for a reason in video gaming: killing the hell out of your teammates. If the developers never wanted over-necessary griefing, they would've disabled it completely! FF is also the solution to the age old problem "how do I get my teammate to pay attention to me, without having to type or waste time shooting when it wont do any damage to him/her?"

And then there is the fun factor. Whilst killing aliens may be enjoyable for some, I for one prefer the adrenaline-pumping, traitorous rush I get when I Benedict Arnold someone in the back of the head with a shottie, or tear up the guys just standing around the armoury after I painsawed the reac.

There is no greater pleasure.

That way we could sort/filter it in server browsers too.
Buildpoints would be great to go in server info too.

Friendly fire has its uses.  When you see the griefer running for the reactor, painsaw him up the ass.  Good times.

Buy a lucifer cannon & a battlesuit.
Spam the lucifer at your own structures wrecking havoc all over.
The battlesuit protects you from splash damage, exploding buildings, and vengeful teammates.
Take out the reactor last, so you can recharge your shots.

Now thats how to teamkill.

Yes and no.
I've spectated someone who blew up the base out of boredom.
How bored did he get?
Hunting 4 marauders on transit gets pretty boring.
