Then why is the b-suit much larger than normal human? Anyway, who says that you need to go into slash range to kill tyrant, hmm? More ammo+radar > a bit less damage, imho.

There's not that much new things for me in the game anymore, so I'm learning to metaplay by knowing the dps of all weapons, armor protection values etc. So if you are right about the b-suit I start using it in crowded places as well.

It can be bigger visualy, but it doesn't change the fact that the hitbox is exactly the same :) Mappers know that ( well, mappers that worry about the size of the different players )

As for the reason why humans often have to go close combat with Tyrants :

btw does anyone know if it's not possible to get headshot to crouched human? I've noticed that dretches get only torso hits to me when I'm crouching...

Light armor is more efficient when crouched, but I doubt that you cannot receive headshots anymore.

Personally, I have no sympathy or even care about balancing tyrants 1vs1 because that would ruin the game for aliens.  In every game I've played where melee goes against range players, the ranged players always scream bloody murder over the melee players.  'OMG when they get close to me, they fuck me up!"  That's the whole point.  Explain to me the point of tyrants if they don't have the health or regen?  They would be big ass dragoons with less speed.

In all maps, there is very little possibilities for humans to limit the ability of aliens to get in close range with them. Thus, humans have to be able to fend of by themselves in close combat if they want to be of some use.

Lucifer might have worked at a time to keep Tyrants far away. Now, a lot of good alien players I fight against will just charge head first into me rather than be scared away by my luci. If I'm alone, they won't even bother to avoid the first hit since they know they'll kill me before I have the time to fire a second.

So what you are doing when they charge up?  I'm so sorry but even when I play humans, it never feels this imbalanced at all.  I don't want to TELL people how to play but after specc'ing people and playing myself,  I know how to deal with situations.

You act like the minute the tyrant hits a hall, you might as well log out.  Humans don't get a large window of opportunity.  You have about 3 seconds or make or break an encounter with a tyrant.  But it can go either way between aggressive players.

All I see is that if the balance swings too far from where it is now, this game will die.  Humans have advantages but all it takes is a little nudge before it becomes painfully obvious and noone will want to play aliens.

Nethack, Angband, Crawl or whatever you like :)

But since we are in a FPS related forum, I guess DoomRL would be the best fit ;)

There is a way for deal with that, in fact its a technique you should always use when going around corners.  But whatever, that explains the psychology of a camper.  OMG A CORNER, I'm DEAD!

Yeah, we sure should thank you for NOT giving us the way to solve that. Btw, I will not tell you about the way aliens can own in 5 minutes top any human team that camps, even as dretches against tesla. Trust me, aliens are overpowered because of that and should be nerfed !

They way to deal with that is:

1. charge luci
2. go around corner
3. shoot floor if there is a tyrant, shoot wall if there is a goon, shoot ceiling if there is a marauder, secondary fire in most other cases.

its not so much the fact that a tyrant is overpowered, it just the sheer number of them attacking at any one time is more or less impossible to counter even with bsuits.

half the time the only thing you can hope for on human is for them to get blocked by their own dumbass teamates so you can drill them in the back with a couple more shotgun blasts to bring them down like the big fat spacecows that they are.

factor in ff-enabled servers though, and nobody wins. s3 vs s3 results in hour long standoffs of ppl bitching at eachother. everyones camping at that point, even aliens who might be thinking theyre on offense, but in reality youre just camping forward, whereas humans are camping defensively with no real options because the second any of them try to step out the door 2 tyrants and a goon eat them alive. and with ff on, attacking in a group doesnt work at all, which is shitty because thats the whole premise behind human offensives.

ill agree that ff wasnt meant for this game at all though, even if playing with it on does sharpen you up to the point where you learn to avoid being a dumbfucking asshole who piledrives mass drivers into teamates asses, or spins their view around wildly holding slash while having booster poison active. but while you may be weary enough to avoid making these mistakes, theres no chance in hell everyone else will be as careful as you.

its just how it is with games like these. theres no way to make everything perfect, because the fact remains that you cant program a game like this to the point where it enables even a dumbass retarded cunt to play like a pro.

And what if theres nothing there? Bsuits have no radar...If you do that for every corner, by the time there actually IS a tyrant, you will have no ammo left.

So let me get this straight, you come around the corner with charged luci and shoot the ground, maybe doing 100 damage to the tyrant but at the same time placing yourself within melee range of him and most likely taking off the 20 hp that seperates the tyrant from a 2 hit kill on your suit, or if your helmet your a 2 hit kill anyway, or you shoot it at the ground far enough from yourself that it doesnt splash you, in which case any decent tyrant has more than enough time to see it coming and side step it as he closes the gap.

The mentality of fearing corners isn't one of a camper, it's one of someone who knows that to round the corner you have to place yourself within melee range of whatever is around the corner and that aliens have an obvious advantage in melee, and if you really think that luci is an effective weapon against a decent and aware tyrant the average skill on the servers you play must be pretty low. Come over to a server like Boom Boom and many a tyrant will gladly hand you your lucisuits head with little trouble.

That's funny, I was on Boom Boom yesterday and I backed up down Yahoo with a pulse and NO armor.  He had a tyrant, we joked about how I forgot to buy armor.  If anything, I've killed more than a few tyrants with pulse by standing my ground.  Someone has to win.

That's why I don't give tips, idiots aren't going to believe you anyway.

Oh my mistake, I should have known you would use a single, one in a thousand lucky kill to back up your arguement. While we are at it, I blastered a tyrant once that must make the blaster overpowered right?

And your right, people don't listen to tips from idiots so just go ahead and keep them to yourself.

Hey, I'm new to these forums, and this is my first post ever.  I haven't been playing Tremulous for very long, but I've been playing long enough to know most of the game's mechanics and such.

I was reading your suggestion list and one of your suggestions had something to do with turning ff off.  Now that's funny because I thought that setting was default to off as the server I play on has no ff, and let me tell you now, the teams are VERY balanced.  I mean almost 50-50 win/losses.  Maybe its slightly in the aliens favor, but as posted earlier, its due to the players themselves, not the weapons, aliens, etc.  By the looks of these forums, I'm about the only new member who hasn't got a problem with the game.  So the only suggestion I can agree with you on is the friendly fire, and that's all.

EDIT: Also on the server I play on, the game is limited to a maximum of 16 players.  This is a perfect amount of people IMO as I tend to find that if theres lower than 8 people, the humans win more as the dretches have a harder time evolving, and that if theres higher than 16 people, the aliens win more as the aliens camp near the human base and kill n00b's that come out of the base then rack up evo points, and they all evolve into tyrants and gang-rape the human base.

Egg hunt - i believe the easiest way to stop this is alien should stop regneration if theres no OM present. (it includes alien buildings) Egg spawn's effectively is limited if alien dont regnerate, so the human will actually gets a big advantage when OM down, whereas now people are like- ok OM down, wheres the eggs tho?

Well i strongly thinks theres no human counter part to the tyant is because the humans are meant to win or lose during their S2. If the humans let aliens hit S3, its their fault and they should pay for it.

Honestly, if u played against a decent human team that doesnt have noob feeders when they are s2, you know the feel. Goon or (adv) mara dies more often than kills, dretchs are just feeding em to s3; you can only rely on boosters and trappers...

The KEY issue i found was tremulous is that, aliens are overpowered because human rushers generally dies to aliens ( due to their weak base defense and constantly pressure[ 1 goon after another, then the first goon regernates and come back for you ]  , killing em off during their retreat etc ) whereas alliens rushers dies less often to humans, ( turrets get most of the kill, human chase the wounded only to find another fresh allien camping in corner , or the wound allien gets far enough and regnerates and come back to kill you in full health.)

One minor thing that could help the FF unbalance situation would be to make Luci shots and Grenades visible to humans on radar

Also about people complaining about Tyrants hiding behind corners, there's always the Jettard/Lucispam combo. :)
