A new-ish kind of griefing
« on: November 21, 2006, 04:15:51 am »
Bad building.  Everyone's seen it done but to varying degrees.  I'm calling for a precedent to be set here.

We all hate it when people decon our bases but, lately, I've been having games where griefers (not just noobs) have been purposefully building bad bases.  This is after trying to talk them out of building or trying to show them how to build a "good" base.  And by "bad" base I don't mean a noob sort of making a non-optimal turret configuration.  I mean purposely stupid building up to and including deconning legitimate builder's placements.

As a fer-instance, I was just in BG as aliens and someone kept rebuilding our OM in the original base and surrounding it with floor trappers.  Now, obviously, this isn't just some newbie that doesn't know how to build.  He kept ignoring our team and kept stealing back BP's to fuel his useless trapper base.

I tried to vote kick him twice but it failed both times, presumably from human votes.  What I'm proposing is that this sort of griefing be bannable... or at the very least I'd like to get people to understand that this does happen and that "teaching the 'noob' how to build" doesn't cut it.

I've been having massive issues with this lately on BG and sometimes on Boom Boom.

It ussually happens when I come back to base and see what the builder has done.
I ask him how his building skills are and I don't get an answer so I politely tell him that I'll take over so he can either watch or dretch.
This is when trouble starts.
The second I finish the base, the player goes to decon everything I juts made and turn it into side baricades and floor trappers.
So I go torebuild it all back before the s2/s3 humans come storming in and the person starts fighting over BP's, saying that I'm a deconner and attempts to kick me or get me banned.
Now this doesnt works since I'm kinda fairly known on the servers I play on so the person leaves but the damage is already done and before you know it, the half-assed base gets overrun by hummies.

I know this isn't a case of new players attempting to build but rather someone who knows what they are doing. The noob builder will more often then not listen to you and watch you build to pick up building points.
Someone who tries to kick you the second you notice what he's doing with the BP's is nothing more then a quiet griefer looking to mess-up the game somehow.
This also prevents those players from getting the ban since many times they claim to be new.
Yelling at team mates since 2006!

Yes, yes, !denybuild, I know.  What I'm asking is that when there are no admins on the server (or no !denybuild for them) that people recognize that this behaviour is happening and allow kicking.

In other words, classify this as a form of griefing not just noob building and treat people that do it accordingly.

Lava: Your offer is tempting but I get crap ping on SatGNU unfortunately.  :-?

Someone built a wall of armories at one of the Niveus entrances on BoomBoom the other day.  Serek PL.
And I played two games yesterday where alien builders moved to the middle on ATCS...

I was Alien on SST when someone moved the reactor in Karith onto a crate in the same room.
Even easier to get at, harder to defend, and he did it twice in one game.
I had to leave but I think Aliens won that one.

I've seen worse, some time ago.
Can you imagine alien team actually encouraging such builder so they can continue their skirmishing?
They, fortunately, lost the game.. yelling about noob builders, stupid players, idiotic spectators, griefers, blaming each other for not building.. you get the idea. :-?

I've been told that teamvotes are "broken."  I presumed that meant they don't work, am I wrong?  If I am wrong then, yes, I'll be using teamvotes in the future.

They work... but the problem is nobody has binds set up to actually vote on them by default unless the server is running a mod to allow 'vote yes' to function for 'teamvote yes' as well.

The issue is that 'callteamvote' requires 'teamvote' to answer, not the normal 'vote' unfortunately.

That's rather funny.  You'd think the default binds for f1/f2 would be for both...

I'll be switching mine now in any case.

Universal binds:

/bind f1 "teamvote yes;vote yes"
/bind f2 "teamvote no;vote no"

I can tell you now that the BG server doesn't let us admins use denybuild and allowbuild (we don't have those commands), but that isn't the problem. Maybe you could talk to Shafe about becoming an admin because most of us don't play that early in the morning.

Do teamvotes actually call it on the right person?
It's been awhile since I called one but I remember them not always doing who you picked in the list.

Yeah.. you were probably in that game with the guy who built trappers on the floor all over the place sucking up all the buildpoints as soon as the OM was up and we were trying to hide eggs...
also a lot of early game decons without asking or request for backup in the name of "moving".

I can't remember the server, but some guy on ATCS built a wall of barricades blocking the front entrance, which, although blocking humans from getting in, almost got one of our goons killed. Then he built a floor trapper in front of it. We promptly kicked him, only 1 vote against it.

Ehrm... what goon is unable to get over some barricades? iirc stacking barricades is not possible ...

I don't think there is enouth space between the baricades and the ceiling in the entrance of the alien base in ATCS :)

You've never seen grangers build eggs in the human base on arachnid2? I've seen that like 6 or so times in the past few weeks, and only once it seemingly worked (though I'm inclined the blame the fact that there were a few goons in the human base tearing it up at the time).

That's just asking for a :armoury:+:medstat: combo right next to the eggs.

Oh come on, for teamvotes to work, just rebind your vote bind to be:
bind F1 "vote yes; teamvote yes"
bind F2 "vote no; teamvote no"

That does it.
