Visual feedback of charging Lucis.
« on: December 01, 2006, 10:31:31 am »
When playing as alien, if you fight against a human with luci, you should be able to see or hear when he's charging his luci. ATM there's no feedback at all. It could be made so the weapon flash is active and growing when charging, or at least play a sound, so aliens have a chance to dodge the full charged lucis (usually in the face) that give instant kills.

Might be good for realism, but think about it... How many lucy shots hit out of ten when some alien really tries to attack you without getting hit? Those good goon and mara players (of course if aliens don't have s3+tyrants yet..) are your worst nightmare when carrying lucy.

Don't balance the game for those with lowest skill.

....can you see a goon pounce charging.... can't you?

I think we need to see the luci charging.. i've been charging it all too much and some MORON runs in front of me and I have to shoot it up into the ceiling. They get killed by the alien, and then before i can get the charge back the fkin alien kills me. No really any way I can tell them no to do that when they can't see it happening..
If they are too close (WHY DO YOU PEOPLE RUN AND STAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME SO MUCH), you get splash damage even.. and on non FF servers they go flying into the alien base or wherever maybe giving the aliens an evo when he finds himself surrounded.

It wouldn't be that hard to make the gun glow at least..

i have a feeling that this will still happen if you can see it charging. this will help aliens much more than humans, and i don't like the idea of buffing aliens right now. also, you can't do this with only a change to game.qvm, which means that you need to release a new version of trem to do it.

That's really silly. The proper thing to do is fire your luci and complain about how they made you lose credits.

I think a Samus arm-cannon-like charge animation would be cool, where the end of the barrel sucks in energy. It should also make a charge sound to alert aliens more.

Yes
Goons about to pounce are usually leaned back, legs at a 45 degree slant, plus they slow down.

I'm not talking about realism (in fact, not showing any effect is probably the most realistic option), I talk about skill. Proper feedback is what allows better players to use their skills. If some guy in a BS enters a corner with the lucy already charged there is no way to know when he shot last time,  so theres no chance to make the decission between dodging or attacking. Being able to make the right decission in combat is the best definition I know of skill, but the information is needed.

(BTW, ok about maras, but goons hard to kill if you have a luci?, you just need 1 shot, and they are big and slow targets. Ok, you can't chase them, but if they attack you they are dead)

As Paradox very well mentioned, you can make this decission as human when finding a goon. And it is extremely useful. I just miss the same thing with luci carriers, cause, atm, the only thing I can do when I find a guy with lucy is running away until he fires the first shot.

This is wrong on many levels. To kill a goon, you do not only need one shot. You need a fully charged shot that is about to explode in your face. It means that you have very little control on the time of release. Hitting an alien with the luci is a very hard skill in itself ( not counting splash damage killed small aliens ). You have to chose the correct moment to release the luci ball so that the alien cannot avoid it easily. Most often, that instant doesn't match the fully charged ball at all, and you either fire a weak ball or fire too early thus easy to avoid. And any alien that knows how works a lucy knows that the perfect moment to attack the human is just after he shot once.

PS : although I have to admit, adding a visual effect when the luci is charging would probably not matter at all for me since I'm *always* charging the luci when in dangerous land :D
urphy's rules of combat
8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

Isn't the fact that you see someone toting a Lucifer Cannon enough reason to lay low for a bit? What would having a clear animation showing the Lucy charging (if something like that can even be animated in a way so you blind folk can notice). It takes a few second to charge a Lucy, so you can always guess when it's about to fire. Being sure when the Lucy will fire would just make it boring.

hmm... not really. Depends, maybe, sometimes. TBH, I'm much more worried when I find someone with a pulse rifle. The problem with luci guys is attacking them... but they can hardly attack you either.

If I'm requesting it, is because I notice all the time it isn't there. It's not me who seems to be blind here. Anyway, it's not important, just a small detail on feedback improvement. I don't get why everyone raises all the defenses against something as simple as this.

Its a pretty good idea.

Just make sure you can tell the difference between a blast charging on the nd of a gun and one floating along in midair.

I really like using lucy, it's one of my favorite weapons. But wasn't lucy made for dretches that think that they can kill him?

should put this in balance mod and then people won't whine anymore right?

But I'm still with this, I wanna see those cool lucy gathering energy (like what above most said, like Samus, but also like Megaman)
