My server performance test
« on: December 15, 2006, 05:15:12 am »
I'm trying to see what my server setup can handle.  Would appreciate anyone willing to play and report back.  Leaving it up from now till tomorrow at 12 noon eastern time.  May stay up longer.  You can find it on the server browser, has my name on it :D .  Thanks.

Finding the right server configuration is a lot like adjusting hormone regulating drugs. There is no exact right for all cases and there are too many factors to properly gage any change, so the best is to approximate and change as needed. Over the course of time, you should be able to find what works the best.

My server performance test

Thanks for the advice.  The main thing I'm testing right now is the computer's ability to run the server (how many players and such) and my bandwidth.  I'm sure there are tweaks I can do to increase how much I can handle, but I want to get an idea of how much my really low end hardware (300mhz, 196mb) and (this is the main thing) DSL connection can handle :-) .  I know Q3 was fine for such server specs, but tremulous adds all the building entities for the server to track.

So far my server seems to be doing ok, but pings were getting odd at times.  Was measuring ping in the 60s from Germany, but someone "next door" over in Wisconsin was almost 200 at times.  Looks like it was just how traffic was last night as I had both the 60 and the 200 ping on at the same time (sorry for this duh moment, I'm tired).  Seemed to average out around 130s for most.  Had about 6 people at one time.  LOL, and sorry if I seem to be owning people occasionally when I'm on, the server is on my LAN with a ping of about 10 most of the time :-).  If you have more than 150, you will probably bite the dust.
