Suggestion: soundtrack?
« on: December 17, 2006, 10:57:23 pm »
I was thinking it would be cool to have some sort of in-game music. This could really help create the adrenaline pumping horror movie mood that the name "Tremulous" suggests.

I'm thinking that maybe the game could even change tracks based on what's going on in the game; like if you're dogfighting a Tyrant with a bsuit and chaingun there should be fast-paced music, and if you're a lone human out alone during S1 there should be ominous sounding music.

This probably isn't practical for a number of reasons, especially since Tremulous is distributed by downloading, and adding music would increase the size of the game significantly... but what do you all at least think of the idea?

Music would not be that big problem, as it can be ogg instead of wav. but music has to be scene-dependent. You can't play the same music on ancient remains (old ruins, outlands) as on Karith Station (abandonment station).

I would just turn it off.

I need to be able to hear those damn bugs and those pesky humans.

Although, I wouldn't mind if the title screen music was replaced.

Easy to do. I might make a mod if I can be stuffed. Look at Quake 3. That music work AWSOME!!!

Ps: I'm gonna do a redo of the Tremulous theme. Me playing guitar over it. I'll either update the "data-1.1.0.pk3" file, make a mod or upload the music file so you can do it yourself.

The size is what you less have to worry about, since there are already game demos that are more than a gig (!).

And it would be great to have the music change according to the action, race and class.
I mean, wouldn't it be awesome to have the "tyrant song"? :D

Same here, I would just turn it off, I need to hear when grenades are being thrown, and when aliens are coming behind me.

Just upload it somewhere so if it sucks we don't have to find out the hard way :P

Well, it seems to me like one of the main reasons Tremulous is considered so "atmospheric" is the total silence of it all.  *Has been creeped out many a time when wandering about as a lone human in Karith.*

It's a bit like the game Shadow of the Colossus.
