Ping
« on: December 19, 2006, 04:04:29 am »
I'm Sick and Tired of not being able to go on a server because my Ping is not low enough.  I have a High speed connection 7megabytes/second, why can I not join any servers, yes I said any. Meaning I can not play because my ping is to High. I live in the Arizona, USA can anyone solve my problem?

7 megabytes per second?!? You have a 58Mbps connection?

there's this number, roughly equal to 3 * 10^8 meters/second. afaik, it's provably impossible for infromation to move faster than that number. it doesn't matter how much bandwidth you have, you can't break the laws of physics. bandwidth doesn't affect your ping at all (unless you don't have enough of it, but even dailup comes pretty close to having enough), the main factor is physical distance to the server.

You didn't say what your ping was.

Ping (also called latency) has nothing to do with bandwidth.

Run and post a tracert so we can see where your latency problems are.  Without knowing where the problem is, there is not much we can do to help.

You can also try a server without a maximum ping.

Surprised no one asked this. Do you have any other programs running that use bandwidth? (Browsers, file sharing programs, etc...)
