Maneuverability Ideas
« on: December 20, 2006, 12:05:52 am »
In my opinion, something that would be quite smashing would be a way of making humans and aliens a bit more maneuverable.  For instance:

Humans
1. Be able to do something like a roll to avoid charges and pounces more easily.
2. Be able to jump on top of aliens, or onto their backs for a moment.  (And then use pain saw or flamethrower, etc.)

Aliens
(I can't think of much for aliens, they're main hook is speed...)
1.  Possibly a way for dragoons to be able to hold a human in its jaws if done right.  You know, as if it was eating the poor guy.
2.  Maybe some sort of way for dretches to have a web-like strand, for swinging across hallways and hanging there for a moment.  Wall crawling is just a bit too difficult to control.

Plus, some ragdoll physics would be neat...  You know, get charged by a tyrant and go flying.

You say dretches should be able to spin webs and climb across them like spiders... because walking on a wall is too difficult.

You already do, just not very far (except on my server  8) )

You can already jump on aliens, just hope the stay put long enough.

I think the Battlesuit should be able to thrust in any directions a second for each bar of stamina.

Ragdoll physics would indeed be sweet.

Here are the sources, nobody keeps you from coding them.
If my answer to your problem doesn't seem helpful, it means I won't help you until you show some effort to fix your problem yourself!

Hmm, if we want to code it ourselves, then this would probably help:
Featherstone's Algorithm
Advanced Character Animations

I couldn't find any premade, Quake compatible rag-doll physics engines or mods, but it might be possible to create one.

1.) have u been playin to much gunz online?

2.) do u mean being able to stay on them while they move or do u mean just being able to get ontop of them?

Gunz Online?

Anyway, I mean be able to hold onto their backs, like a rodeo.

Gunz Online is a game where you shoot other people, 3rd person view. It's possible to run on walls, make trick jumps and move incredibly fast and almost fly by abusing some bugs of the game engine.

it would be nice if the human sprint was alot faster, and if the battlesuits could jump 2x as high as a non-suited human.
it would also be cool if the jet packs gained altitude faster but landed slower and moved horizontly faster

I don't like Gunz Online
but rolling is a good idea, and it doesn't only come from Gunz Online, it comes from Starwars Battlefront too~~~ XD
I love that game... but I don't play it as often as Trem
I like rolling too, and I like your idea of human jumping on alien and staying there (as if, holding down on the back of alien, so the alien can't attack for some time) and Goon grabbing humans when doing right is good too. Maybe for Marauder too (they don't slash, they actually bite).
Dretch web doesn't sound too good... but what I don't like about wallcrawling is that sometimes I fall when I'm trying to move to the top to hide... so I get killed... :(

OK, just a curious check-up:

How many of the posters in this thread actually think their ideas will be implemented?

hmmm....everyone's being retarded here, and I'll not miss out!

Floorheadbite gone, but dretches can wall-walk up a human to bite its head, as long as they stay in motion. They shouldn't be able to stay stuck to a human, and they could jump on a B-Suit's back and take it down too easily.

Granger spit sucks, it should do no damage, but rather have an effect similar to a trapper, though, that might further encourage the dreaded battle-granger.

Recent SVN commit fix : Granger spit now slows down humans as it was intended to do.
urphy's rules of combat
8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

I'd rather just see it removed.

It would be worth it if we could stem the flow of Battle Grangers.
