I am a new player to Tremulous and would like ANY and ALL tips to improve my play and strategies to use. I'm sure other players would like to know, too.  :D

I have turned my graphic settings all the way down to increase fps and maybe ping.

And /bind MOUSE2 "+button5;+zoom" binds md zoom to right click. Thats all I know. =*

Please help me and other players and post!

When playing dretch:
Never run at hummies in a straight line. EVER.
Never attack flamers. EVER.
Never run at Teslas. EVER.
Never eat a doughnut. EVER.

When playing hummie and meeting a dretch:
When the dretch jumps, and you can't go sideways, jump! it can be a lifesaver.
When the dretch zigzags, keep AIMING and THEN shooting, NOT the other way around!
When the dretch dousn't zigzag, it's an easy target. BLAM AWAY!
Rifle is best weapons against dretch when not using flamers and you're not good at aiming with a massdriver.

When playing as spectator:
Watch the more experienced players and learn some new tricks and techniques.

When not playing at all:
Switch off your computer, it saves energy and diminishes global warming.

If your playing as a dretch non-headshots aren't likely to work well unless your behind them, but if you hit them sqaure in the face your much more likely to kill them. Bsuits almost certainly mean death unless your a master at playing as a dretch. Always look ahead at corners so that you know if your about to meet someone who is luci spamming, if they are run.

All players ph34r a player who has mastered the dretch-headshot! Aim directly above the human's head to land a headshot doing a whopping 96 damage (that is, without a helmit, the more armoured the humans head the less damage, i think aiming at the battlesuit's "head" lands a headshot, though you shouldnt be using a dretch against battlesuits unless they're cramming the hallway at ATCS, I had a killing streak of about 12 armoured and unarmoured humans there in a fraction of the time it'd take to take on a smaller group)

A very important thing for humans is learning about the sprint feature. I played for months without knowing about that.

Not sure what the default key is, but I have it bound to shift.

For both classes:
Use binds. They have saved my life twice during my brief experience with this game. Plus it looks leet to evolve in midair or to buy a bunch of things in less than two seconds.

If you've died five times in a row against the same person/group of people, stop attacking. Chances are they're better than you. Start camping.

Unless you're an extremely good player or with a bunch of your teammates, don't take on anything that's above your level IE Dretch vs. Battlesuit or Rifle vs. Tyrant.

If your health is below 30% and there's a bunch of enemies that you know have a high chance of killing you, DON'T RUN! Unless you see your teammates coming to save you, or you found a nice hiding spot, never ever retreat. It's always better to die fighting than to die running.

ALWAYS CHASE. This is the single most important lesson to learn if you want to be a good player. Sure you'll feed during your first couple games, but after you get experienced, you'll be taking down goons in no time. The biggest mistake people make is thinking 'Oh, I'll die if I go after him/it'.

For aliens:
If you just started, use dretch and dragoons. If you have enough evolution points, become a tyrant. Maras and Basilisks are for the players that have practiced a long time with them. You'll be wasting your evo's if you try to take down experienced players with aliens that require lots of practice and skill to get good at.

Weave left and right when attack. Jump alot, regardless of what you are.

Aim for headshots or chestshots. Retreat only if your health is at around 60% and you know you can't kill the human.

Think about what the attacker will do. For instance, when I'm a dretch and I see a human with a lucifer cannon, chances are that he'll shoot the ground the second I get close (in hopes of killing me through splash damage), so I pretend to be walking straight towards him, and then I sharply turn left/right at the last moment. He usually fires right then, and I immediately go in for a quick headshot. Rinse, lather, repeat and you've a dead human.

When attacking the human base, just go in and cause havoc. You don't have to kill anyone.

Never attack a flamer or lucifer directly. That's synonymous with suicide.

Use the walls.

For humans:
Jump. It saves lives.

Press 'x' to sprint. It saves lives.

If a dragoon had just leaped into your base and gotten hit by you/your teammates/some turrets, and now it's running away, CHASE IT CHASE IT CHASE IT. A dragoon has 200 health. Even assuming that you have the standard weapon (the rifle), your chances of killing the dragoon is pretty high. The rifle does 5 dmg per bullet. There's 30 bullets in a clip. That means to kill a fully healed dragoon would take 40 bullets. If a goon was hit alot already, just sprint after it, and usually half a clip will put it down.

Know your map. There are lots of places where aliens just pop up.

Don't use a mass driver if you're inexperienced with it. It'll just be a waste of creds.
here is the love?

Human tips
Bored of camping but skill is not enough to go and kill all the aliens? Here is a tip to help in this small task.
Get your self Kamikaze Kit!
Buy stuff on this order (importancy order depending on stage and moey ammount):
1. Pain Saw (Optional flamer but may hurt u too)
2. Battle Suit (s3)
3. Light armour (s1&2)
4. Helmet (s2)
5. Grenade (s2&3)

Any tips for use of it use it?
To kill Drechses: Crouch and Stay still and Aim the drech...
To Kill Basilisk: Just make sure it does not get behind but if it does and grabs you then waste your nade.
To kill Mara: Whe mara trys head shot, duck and after claw sound get standing to hurt it.
To Kill goons: Hold fire and avoid pouncess
To kill tyrant: You never make it unless its uber n00b.
To kill bases: Throw nade near om or eggs. Run and saw/burn as many eggs you can. Use medpack to get little more protection from defences

Use the manual.

Maybe you should read the manual before promoting other to.
And stop trolling.

The fact that he seems oblivious to the content of the manual?
There is nothing about strategy or how to play well, or anything the OP is after.

Never Ever try to read the Manual, it just might help to understand some of the game basics AND some binds.
Then again... If you get shot/kicked/banned this here is the place to tell us how bad the admins are and what server sucks.
And if you have any suggestion, don't hesitate to post them.
For all other questions just ignore the search, it will never find anything.

one of the best things you can do is spec players who are better than you every now and then, and try to understand what they are doing better than you.

People that say you should never run off as an alien when near death are wrong.

Because this is just a matter of style; sure if you wanna kill whore and possibly lose your evos, do so.

But if you want to live another day, not interrupt your every-2-and-a-half free evo, and not give your enemies kills and credits: DO SO!

All this noble 'fight till death' bullshit makes me positively sick!

Alo, do not always chase, it depends on how far the alien have gottan away, and how many goons/ tyrants are waiting outside + your equipment.

Not dying earns you a lot of credits/ evos... It might be more than you earn on kill whoring if you're not playing against noobs and feeders.

Also, when running down the slope in UTCS just by the deafult human base, JUMP, this will give you a boost of speed, its not a bug or exploit; its only how the q3 physics engine works.

If dretches are right behind you, chasing you (and i mean RIGHT on your heels!) stop, sidestep and move backwards.
This will very ofeten put the dretch in front of you and give you an easy kill.
