Opinion Most balenced Server settings?

Ok there has been some talk of certain settings which can swing the game in humans or aliens favor. I will list some. Any i missed?

#1 Unlagged
#2 Friendfire
#3 Increased knockback and reduced range.(balence lite)
#4 Anti-spam rule.

Whats everyones opinion of a balenced server?

I think that Friendly fire on is a good thing to keep humans balenced when you have unlagged on, it also helps with spammers.

Anti-spam rules are the dumbest thing ever, Even military uses spam in combat, Its called suppressive fire.

The increased knockback of balence mod lite combined with the svn its built from(svn has reduced alien range I believe) stacks it to the humans.

I want to know opinions so I can run whats most balenced on the Oppressed server. We are currently running the latest svn with the patchs added.  FF=on(mostly for clanwar practice) Unlagged=On No anti spam rule and no Balence mod lite.

Tell me what you guys think.
I think this belongs in general not server discussion because it talks about game balence more than anything.

Incresed knockback favors humans
decresed range favors aliens
Anti spam favors all.


Yes, they do use suppresive fire in the army. But do they have Energy weapons in the army? no. Do they shoot their teammates in the back when running down a hall? no.

retribution would be good for OPP Public if you dont have it allready.

Depending on the army, yes, but because they are not (currently) as effective or inexpensive as projectile weapons they do not use them.

The map played, build points, the number of players, and even the average latency of the players (which is one reason unlagged is very good) can impact on balance as well.
Need help? Ask intelligently. Please share solutions you find.

Thats what we need, helpful players, not more powerful admins.

Unlagged in the current 1.1.0 backport implementation makes the game decidedly hard for aliens. In a no FF, no antispam setting, aliens are losing most of the time without some serious team stacking.

No unlagged.
FF only if Dretchpunt is on.
Antispam rule: Do not spam down the hallway if there is no target visible or on radar
Balance lite - I don't know what this is, sorry. Increased knockback from goon pounce is pretty likely to happen in next version though.

there is no such thing as a balanced server... skill will always tilt the sides in someone's favor....  gamewise default is balanced.   if anything change SD to type 2.. that way humans wont lose armory in 1 min and lose game almost always

Those last two arguments have absolutely no logical value in whether or not spamming rules are good. If anything, energy weapons would be used to suppress fire more than ballistic weapons, because energy weapons are easier/cheaper to reload.

personally, i enjoy sst's bp count. at 260bp, it gives the humans a generous outpost and for the aliens extra eggs and acid tubes to combat the constant human attack

For everyone's reference, when I built the qvm from source I used svn revision 879 and I applied all these patches :

I'm thinking of adding retribution and I'm looking for a newer designated builder patch. If anyone has designated builder patches for recent svn revisions, let me know. Otherwise I guess I could just spend some time and merge older builder patches by hand myself.

In my opinion the most balanced settings would be vanilla trem with unlagged and 102 bps.

When you start messing with FF, Knockback, game speed, slash range, silly rules you almost make trem into a different game.

oh and dretch punt is a must.

As for game settings. FF yes. I like it even better if with no FF to structures, but well, as long as FF is yes I can live with both options.

Friendly fire shows if players are good playing in team (can avoid clawing and buckshoting each other on back) so I think it should be on.
Unlagged is lame coz it`s like auto aim in some single player games (wich were too easy without). if you can`t  predict the ping effect then you need to go back for bootcamp
Anti-Spam is for fools. People just do what they can do. Put recharge time on the reactor\armory\repeater ammo thingy if you don`t like spam. On balance mod people spam bile dreches as well wich can get best base in no time.

How so...

If you play on tjw's, you see knockback in affect, the knockback somewhat freezes aliens in place pershot. Unlagged does favor aliens, whether you like it or not.

unlagged makes las and md beastly. knockback tho hard to get used to at first, pushes you away from the alien. this requires them to get closer again, while you can still shoot them. humans require teamwork to take out a big alien. when your teammates are shooting each other, its not working so well. ff favors aliens. especially considering dretch mara zap and basi gas dont affect other aliens, while dretch punt is on a ton of servers which unbalances the situation further. decreased range favors humans...dur. antispam favors aliens...theres no "you can only tyrant swipe once per 5 secs" rule. suppressive fire goes back to ff on or off.

With anti-spam, I said both because of the TK factor. Otherwise it favors aliens.

I HATE knockback, it ruins what little effectiveness my psaw had... really pisses me off tbh.

The knockback doesnt really hurt aliens that much. If you get used to it, you can shove a human into a corner while charging, then slash them in the head, and get a fast kill. Same for humans, push dretch to corner, etc.

Sorry... is there any reason nobody has mentioned the ability to share credits/evo points? I personally think sharing is the best balance modification. It allows players that join a S3 game to quickly get into the fight and promotes teamwork. Another big thing I like is having the aliens get the Adv. Goon at S2, which allows them bring the fight to the human base to a certain extent.

On the topics mentioned: FF on and no anti-spam. FF should regulate spam to a certain extent. Also, I definitely think most vital buildings should be able to be rebuilt in sudden death. I also like the idea of a timer on reloading (or maybe make quick reloads cost money).

Yeah I forgot share, I am so used to it most servers i play on have it. I Keep A couple a rants by my side instead of being a sole attacker with 9 evos.  Also the rebuidables i was against at first but the new qvm our server runs lets us set them as rebuidable and It really helps give humans a chance in sd.
