Will you actually be putting this in the game somehow? Like in a mod or something? It looks sweet btw. ;P
That's the plan, eventually.

Too many for trem. The intention is to create a high-poly model then bake the details onto a low-poly version for use in the game.

The current model was done in Wings3D. I'll be using Blender for everything else (UV unwrap, mesh resolution, render baking, etc.)

Gah... mara basi hybrid is bit too much using old ideas.
I rly want to know how Taiyo.uk desinged this if he even did desing any statics/abilities for it.
Hmm.... Design process... I figured that since all aliens have six legs and some have smaller limbs at the front, this one should stick to this pattern, else it'll look out of place in the game. The two front limbs in this case are the lower jaw when folded (I like things that have explosive gorespamming mouths like Geiger's alien or the vampires in Blade), and as for the spiky tentacle, well... you can't have a mouth that opens like that without something that shoots out of it and eviscerates you. Overall it's about the size of a goon, available at S3, 4 evos, 300HP, primary attack is to grab humans, immobilising those that aren't in a BS, and ripping bits off of them using it's tentacle, a long slow process with lots of squishy bone crunching noises. 70HP/s to an unarmoured human. Tentacle whip as a secondary attack, no pounce, similar jumping height to a goon. Of course these statistics/abilities will change as needed during the play testing period.

<3!!!

What are you going to call it?

a couple of suggested possibilities:

Tengu, Harpy, Cockatrice, Hippogriff (since it is kind of a big Basi, and has a grabbing attack; Tremulous has one beast already named for a mythical animal, and this new Alien is a similar class, combat-wise)

Jaeger, Sapper, Pioneer (the basic Tremulous naming convention is to use a name for a type of combatant, harkening back to the types of classifications for 17th & 18th Century infantry and cavalry)

it's cute, but i doN't see how it is more interesting than the present alien models :-(... what i doN't like so much in general except the goon and the granger, so don't misunderstand me :-)

i wish the legs would vary a bit in size and height of connection to the body.

I like the current convention of alien class naming. I want a name that suits a fighting species, a name that people would associate with a mighty and skilled warrior fighting for it's horde, but also implies pulverisation and strong suction.

It will do when I get the tentacle done - it grabs humans with it's mandibles then nom-nom-nom-crunch-slurps them with it's feeding tentacle, it's kind of like when a baby xenomorph chestbursts you but in reverse.

The dream was set in Arachnid2. I had just psawed the overmind and naded the eggs. I started the long sprint back to base, but halfway through the long corridor a large alien dropped down from the pipes above. I had not seen this species before; it was larger than a dragoon and moved quickly towards me, it's lower jaw looked strange. Before I could raise my painsaw to it's head it's lower jaw split in two and each half opened into barbed pincer arms tipped with a sharp claw. It grabbed me with these arms and then a powerful tentacle with sharp barbs at the end shot out from it's throat and burst through my chest and started crushing my entrails into a pulp that it sucked back through the tentacle to feed. It dropped what was left of my body when it had finished. I could see pieces of my intestines hanging from it's mouth as it walked away. Even though I was very dead all I could think was "omg l33t!".

Taiyo, don't make a huge basilisk what cant jump :-)

i'd suggest to make her a kind of chameleon (typo?) what draws its enemies close to her by a tentacle or tounge. this way you get some "shooter" class wich still needs the close combat. think of a scorpion-like spear :-) GETOVERHEERE!
so it would require aiming what could balance the lack of wallwalk and high jumps. just imagine to grab campers out of their nest, or dudes hiding in unreachable places.

ofc with a reasonable reach.

Tentacle range should be the excessively long 1.1 Tyrant slash range. :)

I much prefer Beserker as it's more akin to tremulous and sounds at home.

ravisher however sounds too much like ravishing...which is hardly a way to describe a fearsome alien...

Well, my choice would be berserker too or reaver, if it wouldn't sound that Warcraftish (also Starcraft) and wouldn't make me think of a hairy, smelly barbarian. It sounds too human. Thats why I like ravisher (of women *g* - Black Adder ftw)

"Although a woman's tongue is only three inches long, it can kill a man six feet high."

I personally think Ravager* contains the various qualities Taiyo mentioned: destroyer who pulverizes with possibly uncomfortably close intimate contact, who rapes your base, plunders your advance camp, and rips your heart and your guts out together and eats them sloppily while you die watching how strange and terrible it is, thus robbing you of both glory and victory. I guess players would call it a rava.

*but see also, esp., etymology: ravir (ravish)

Woo. Good suggestion ftw.

Ravager and berserker both sound like they'd fit well.
