I can run Tremulous on my brother's Macbook, but, while playing  I see a black area on each side. How can I make fix this?

NOTE: The PPC bug with selecting upgrades with the menu cannot be fixed until the next release since both servers and clients need the update.

Ahh, just been trying out the game last night & I was wondering if it was just me.  Cheers for that ^_^

I'm mirroring the current version at http://acmserver.cs.ucr.edu/~jspjut/tremulous/

I'll try to keep the most current version there as tjw makes it.

I just DL'd the new version. I copied the new Trem.app over my old one. So far the only bug I've found is that buildings are only visible when they are animating.

And yes, I know that this is a grave dig.

Yikes.

You had this problem with the Sept 23'rd version here?

Also which type of video card does your mac have and was this PPC or Intel?

Yes, that was the version. I've gone back to the 7/04 version. I'm running OS 10.3.9 on a PPC. My graphics card is some sort of old RADEON card with 32MB of VRAM. Apple System Profiler has this to say about it:
Code: [Select]
ATY,RADEON:

  Type: display
  Bus: AGP
  Display Type: CRT
  Slot: SLOT-A
  VRAM (Total): 32 MB
  Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
  Device ID: 0x5144
  Revision ID: 0x0000
  ROM Revision: 113-74901-119

Display:

  Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 70 Hz
  Depth: 32-bit Color
  Mirror: Off
  Online: Yes
  Main Display: Yes

I really need to upgrade.

I also had a problem with the most recent version.  I could only see half of a player at a time, and only if they were fairly close to me (ie. only the top half or legs, but not the full model).  Possibly also had the invisible buildings problem, but I quickly reverted to the 0704 version before testing too much.

I'm running a G4 iBook (PPC), 1GHz and a 32Mb ATI Radeon 9200.  OSX 10.4.7

:-?  hmmmm... I am slightly confused as what to do with the latest version you have up on your website that I just downloaded...

First, is this update only for intel macs (as i have a PPC) and if not, when i try to run this file (by following the instructions of puting it in the directory with your prev version of trem)
And when i do this, The game launches and then emmidieatally(sp) quits out
no error messages, nothing...

any help would be appriciated :)

PS: good job so far

I made a new build for the mac backport (dated 2006-10-06):

http://trem.tjw.org/backport/mac/

This should fix the rendering problem on PPC.  No changes on the Intel side since the last version.

As for system req's, I'm not sure about minimums.  It runs pretty smoothly on my 1GHz iBook G4 though.  I've only a 32MB video card and that'd be the first thing I'd upgrade if I could.

Maps with really large open areas, like Uncreation, see a significant drop in frame rate.

Hello,

I'd like to download the latest version for an Intel MacBook running in OS X. If someone could provide a link or describe their experiences with Tremulous on the MacBook (not the Pro, which has a dedicated graphics card) and what version they are running, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

20060704.dmg or is there a later version?
« Reply #78 on: January 29, 2007, 05:17:41 pm »
tjw's backport seems to indicate that the most recent update was 10-13-06. Is .dmg the correct download for the Intel-based MacBook? Sorry about the bump, I was just doing a little thread re-read to see if I missed something, and of course, learned several new things on the third read-through. Although I hesitate to ask, why "backport"? Am I downloading a version of the game no longer compatible with the original? Is the .dmg an OS X or Universal Binary version and what is the difference?

.dmg is disk image, it's essentially a method of compression and works on all Macs as far as I know.
A Universal Binary is a file that works on both Intel processors and PPC, meaning you can run it on any recent Mac regardless of processor type.
The backport is a copy of the game that is built from the latest code but modified slightly so that you can still play on servers designed for the original 1.1.0 release. It gives you a few helpful features that you would otherwise not see until the next version.

All three of these things are good to use on all intel macs.

As for system requirements, I really couldn't help you, but I don't think they're high and find it hard to believe that anything released recently could not do the job. I know someone who runs it on a relatively elderly iBook without any issues. Might want a mouse, though.

Am I mistaken, or has tjw taken the Mac port off his server? My iBook crashed and I lost all my stuff, so I had to redownload it and found that it appears to be missing from his server. Can anyone validate this for me?

20060704.dmg from Apple site
« Reply #81 on: February 01, 2007, 07:39:51 am »
Although if you highlight the download on the Apple games link mentioned above (and several other places in current threads) and it appears to show that it's 20060625.dmg, what you actually get is 20060704.dmg at around 107MB. The tjw mac backport has a small .dmg at around 5MB which I take to be the latest build additions he mentions somewhere for PowerPC, not Intel-based Macs. Or at least that's what I make of it. The build on the Apple site runs well right of the non-box.

Thanks to the Development Team for an excellent FREE game
Thanks to tjw for the port

Sorry for the stupid question but I don't know how to use my intel imac yet. I just switched from WindowsXP so I am a total noob to osX. So far, I copied the tremulous file and the two folders to my applications folder and it the game runs fine and looks really cool.

1)I want to change the resolution to fit my screen. What do I do? I also don't know how to open a console. <----(total noob, sorry)

2)Do I want to install the patch (tremulous-svn755-macosx.patch) that is in the src folder. How do I do this? If I can figure this out, it will let me use the scroll wheel to change weapons in the game right? <----(again total noob, sorry)

If this is already somewhere in an idiots guide, please point me to that guide so that I can read the other stuff that might be important to a total noob like me. If not would someone please create a sticky that includes step by step instructions for noobs?

Thank you for any help.

Assuming you have a widescreen monitor, you won't be able to use the in-game menu to set your custom resolution.  You have to open the game console by typing a ~, then:

Code: [Select]

\r_customwidth 800
\r_customheight 500
\r_mode -1
\vid_restart

Don't worry about the .patch file unless you're a developer.  The problem with selecting upgrades with the scrollwheel is only related to PPC macs and can't be fixed easily since it requires the server to have updated files.  Some servers have the fix, but you'll have to turn on downloading to connect to them.

a question about little snitch for macs
« Reply #86 on: March 21, 2007, 08:42:22 pm »
hey, i've got a real quick question in regards to tremulous running on macs.

I've got a PowerBook G4 laptop, and the game runs properly and smoothly. The only problem is, I use a program called Little Snitch that blocks out certain programs from connecting to the internet, and it automatically denies any connection unless you hit "Allow". When I am in the join game screen and attemping to get the new server list from the internet, I hear an ingame voice saying that "Program Little Snitch has denied connection". I was wondering if any mac users know how to ALT TAB like on a windows computer to still keep the game running, but to return to the desktop to allow the network connection to work through little snitch. I've tried exiting the game, but do not see any little snitch dialogue box for the option to allow tremulous to connect to the internet, and there is no option in little snitch's prefrences to add a program and allow it an internet connction. The only bit of the game I got to play so far was by setting up my own server just running around the levels myself. If anyone has any advice as to how to work around little snitch or just get it to work so that I can try out the multiplayer, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch and keep up the good work on this game.

on macs you need to press Apple+Return, to swich to windowed mode (then Apple+Tab works)

There is a option in Little Snitch

System Preferences->(Others)Little Snitch

unlock the settings by clicking in the Lock (Lower Left)

after that,
either press Apple+N
or click on the Steam and then "New..."

You don't need to run at 800x500. My macbook (1st gen) runs at 60 fps at 1280x800. go for the gusto hombre.
