I think it's about time the community started churning out some creative names for the droids, which currently are only known by their level and type. They probably would've been called relatively uncreative things like "stinger", "stalker", etc., so maybe we could help out by thinking up neat sounding names that actually convey what the class is really supposed to be. Maybe mythical creatures or neologisms from appropriate words would good.

Alright, I was hoping some others would post first, but here are some of my ideas:

Artificer - For a builder
Custodian - It means "caretaker" so it'd be a cool name for a powerful defensive droid
Marauder - offensive droid
Sentinel - defender
Overseer - top droid
Dragoon - something fast
Gladiator - something strong
Myrmidon - something lowly
Hive Mother

Names of mythical beasts
Chimera
Minotaur
Griffin
Manticore
Harpy - Flight?
Golem - defensive
Spectre - stealthy
Wyvern
Wight
Ogre
Basilisk
Kobold
Hydra

Demon Variants
Cacodemon
Fiend
Daeva
Barghest
Garou
Manito
Lemure

Nasty stuff from D&D
Dretch
Quasit
Bebilith
Vrock
Hezrou
Glabrezu
Nalfeshnee
Marilith
Balor
Osyluth
Kyton
Barbazu
Hamatula
Cornugon
Gelugon

Maybe something practical can be derived from one of these (but if any are used as is, you might want to first look up their actual meaning). Scientific inscetoid names might be good for starts too.

Mortedenada - It means, "Death from nothing". Would be for a fast droid.

Lentamorte - This would be for a droid that used a poison, or acid, or somethig like that. "Slow death."

Great ideas Cybernetsam.  Those are the types of names I really push for to be used.

dentesdoaço - "Teeth of Steel."
Essequemtrazamorteeadestruiçãoatodo - "The one who brings death and destruction to all." This one may have to be shortened. Up to you.
Lamerondeun - "Round Blade One." Probably for one which carries the sawblade, or sawblade launcher.

You people are really screwed up. But I mean that in a good way. No, really I do. Yeah...
Anyway, names... how about Query? It would have to be an annoying, whiny little bastard. OK, maybe not. Just a thought... =)

Ever see the "custodian" droid in Aeon Flux?
I mention this 'cause it was really, really cool - it would crawl inside a person's body (through their belly button - much like the "bug" in the matrix) to correct their behavior, effectivly becoming their concious.

Neat.

just call the biggest meanest offensive variation a Tarresque and Ill be happy

Although naming them would make the learning curve of the mod steeper, simply refering to them by a simple code generated from their path down the tech tree would be easier,

like OOD for a offense  -> offense  -> defence tree variant

or COO for construction -> offense ....

although giving the extremes/most populor (sp?) variaties names wouldnt hurt much.

My party (Which included me, a shifter, and two warrior friends) kicked the Tarrasqe's ass. We where around level 15 at the time.
My character almost died though. He spent three months recovering.

Yeah, he's a tough bastard. 300hp. Immune to all missiles and non-magic weapons.
Still beat him up though. Couldn't kill him, becasue we didn't have a wish, but we kept him busy long enough for the town to be evacuated.

2nd edition. I think 3rd edition kinda dumbed him down (And didn't have Tony DiTerlizzi's illustration...)

Have you seen teh 3rd edition books? There are a lot of pictures that help explain things that others have a hard time grasping, like flanks for example. Havn't had a good reading through it though, because I don't play anymore and I don't wanna spend the 20 bucks.
