Dear Fellow Tremulous Forum Users,

Recently the tremulous forums have degraded significantly, and this degradation hurts everyone. Old faithful tremulous users are being pushed away, only to be replaced by spam, insults, and vulgarities.

The tremulous devs have basically stated they don't care much about the state of the forums. The Community Moderators either are inactive, don't care, or Abuse their powers.

To combat this, a few of use were discussing on IRC what we could possibly do. Lava Croft and I have agreed that the only way to wrest control of the forums back into the communities hand is to force the Devs to take back some control.

To this end we have come up with the following "Standard" reply to all the idiotic, spammy, and useless posts. Just Copy/Paste the following as a reply with no other modification and additions. By doing so you agree that

1: You acknowledge the lack of moderators.
2: You acknowledge that many of your fellow Tremulous players are retarded and their posts don't deserve to survive.
3: You are sick of it.

I think this will be good, so long as people don't abuse it.

Everyone posting it in the same thread would be spammy, but people will want to show there support for the cause....

I agree that the community I joined year ago has turned upside down.
I belive it's the popularity of the game that gets idiots to find this game and idioticy spreads like palgue (no offence to the nick user ment). people get anoyed and pissed of insults and bad behavour and start spreading same diciese.

Why not start a clan or w/e That directs new players etc. So basicly for reason that if new player states that he/she needs help people can direct him to ask one of "newb helpers clan" members.

Seriously, what is the problem with the forums anyway? If we exclude Off Topic, the rest of the forum is relatively calm. Maybe too calm indeed but nothing that Trem 1.2.0 won't solve.

Agreed, and I have stated this several times in the past and why my participation has dwindled.  It is a shame that such a great effort at developing one of the best multi-platform free games is degraded by such a poorly controlled forum.  It is THE worst forum I have ever participated in.  Very poorly moderated, but from what I have read, this is supported by Timbo's wishes.  Unfortunately, my enjoyment of the game and efforts to support it keep bringing back.

Flaming the morons that think spamming every topic at once is their major accomplishment in life will never accomplish anything.  Proper moderation seems to be the only solution.

I hope something can be done.

So if we count the dev team out of adminning the regular stuff we went from 5 to 3 at most. Also the powers these mods have seem to be the regular edit, move, lock stuff. No spammer or flamer is truly afraid of that. Perhaps appoint 2 new mods and give them temporary ban (1 week max) privilige?

I was going to post about "childish vigilantism" and how organized leading by example might be better, but reading Diggs's post makes me think I'm not actually qualified to judge. I don't really spend much time here and the forums kind of are just for the community (and from my point of view they don't look much worse than Gloom's forums, which were really the only forum hangout I've had). So the question is, who here is actually qualified to be a moderator? I may not post here a lot, but I would absolutely not tolerate someone with an attitude like Henners's (OBJECTION) being in charge. Lava Croft too, no offense, but you are the most inflammatory person I know. A moderator should be temperate, mature, and magnanimous. A moderator should not be someone who wants power, but has to be someone that cares enough to use it and use it appropriately.

And there are several things that could be done to the actual forum to make things better. I know some were/are in the pipeline, but I'm not up to date.

Also, thinking about, I'm a little touched so many people seem to care.

Just to point it out in public, I do not want to be a moderator at all, I just want moderators to do the job their colored nickname suggests they should do.

Timbo has said that less moderation is more, so we try to only get the really pointless threads, the spam, and the flame wars, but we dont know what there should be done. If a formal set of rules were to be set up, such as no necro, no spam, no useless posts, etc, then it would make moderation a bit easier.
