ug.. i was afraid that would happen people
are argueing about alien crosshairs again...
look... tremulous is an open source game
it was designed be customizable so that anyone
could contribute... thus the hud customizability
without violating purecheck.
if you truely believe it's an advantage,
go grab one for yourself... it's pubicly avaliable.
the devs obviously thought it improved gameplay
because it's in the svn and thus isn't a mod
which makes gameplay worthless or pointless
like an aimbot or a wallhack.
i use the following defintion of a cheat in gaming
for a customizable game like tremulous:
1) any direct modification to the redering engine
which is desgined to create a gameplay advantage.
2) anything which causes enacts actions for your in-game
avatar or changes or modifies the controls while
taking into acount game state information. (binds
are blind... they only do what you say. they cannot read
someone's location like an aimbot.)
3) anything that requires breaking a cheat protection.
(breaking purecheck, changing cheat locked cvars, etc...)
to people who customize:
if you make a really good mod or script which you think
enchances gameplay you should release it to the public...
it is the spirit of open source. trying to keep it to only
yourself to keep an "advantage" is not only silly,
but makes you look stupid.
if some admins want to try
to ban them on their servers,
that is their progative...
but it is silly and foolish
to make rules which you can't
enforce. it only undermines
your potition and authority.
they also need to give fair warning
in thier MMOD. my upcoming
avalon mod has a cvar to disable
the alien crosshair if you should
desire to do so either in
general or to play on a certian server.
note themetal:
silly me i released after my last
post that as long as your making
a mod which can't be used in purecheck,
might as well just change the weapon
definitions for aliens to use your xhair
instead.. you can change size it there,
but it must be square.
