We do have an aimbot problem, unfortunately. I still see them occasionally. It was a lot more frequent, but there are still some floating around.
The trouble with not talking about them, is they are a part of the 'tremulous experience'. I don't think they should be a part of playing the game, but many (if not more) tremulous community members have seen them and want to talk about them.
Talking about it does more than glorify yourself. For one, it can strengthen a community to have a common enemy. Also, you might hear suggestions for battling the issue which you might not have thought of yourself.
When people give the following argument..
By talking about them, we're just making people more aware of them, and so more prone to using them.
..it reminds me of the complaints people make about glorifying guns in the media. They feel it will give kids the impression it's cool to have and use guns. My personal opinion, is that the kids won't become gun-toting gangstas unless they've had ALOT more influence than seeing a guy shooting baddies on a TV-screen. They like to blame the media, and so they forget about how messed up the kids life was before he went on that killing spree.
Now when we're talking about aimbots, the risk is a lot lower and the moral indignation toward it is alot weaker. Still, the kind of person who looks at these forums and then decides to use an aimbot would already have the state-of-mind that it's ok to cheat on public games. If they already have this mindset, there's nothing stopping them from looking for the aimbot themselves. Maybe the forums give them the idea that they wouldn't have had otherwise, but what kind of player would a person like that be without an aimbot? A deconner maybe? A spammer? He doesn't seem too interested in playing the game seriously. The aimbot is like bait for all those kind of players who would want to cheat.
It just doesn't sound like a good idea to pretend there's no such thing as aimbots just for the more ignorant of our community.
