@Player1Yeah, Deus Ex is great, it's a genre of it's own with System Shock close to it. Daikatana is still one of my favourite multiplayer games that I still play, you can get "Daikatana DM" for free, John Romero approved. Dude, the frogs are leet and then there's the FREAKING MUMMIES!!! lol. I like the weapons and maps a lot more than many other Quake 2 mods. Don't get me started on the friggin vorpal sword, it's right next to F.E.A.R.'s Penetrator with my favourite weapons evar.
I'm into all games id, I like games that go beyond just FPS though, like Heretic and Hexen are in my book of great games, cast spells in an FPS
and you get a sword!
A game that fits in here as utter failure is Doom 3. Doom 3 was so hyped with video releases and screenshots, then it comes out and it's like "omg...SCARY!" and then a half hour later it's not even fun anymore because you ruined all your pants, another half hour and it's not scary anymore for some reason it's just boring as all hell and repetative, imps teleporting behind you all the time and stuff like that. The enemies were all clowns, I really wish they'd just stuck with more traditional characters from past Dooms instead of spiders with upside down heads...
Doom 3 was the biggest letdown of a game for me evar, but if it didn't happen then that sweet engine wouldn't have been made, and I do like that engine. Quake 4 isn't as bad as Doom 3 in single player, I can actually play it, and then Quake 4 online is some of the sweetest gameplay I've ever played. I hope that with Quake Wars coming out they'll open source the Doom 3 / Quake 4 engine so good mods can be made. Prey was kinda creepy, the doorways are alien anuses, that's just messed up.
