IMO vista WAS actually better'n XP..
I mean, It's pretty! Who the hell needs a good OS? You need a pretty OS. (atleast, i do.)
And it's actually not THAT bad.. I've had a minimum of problems with it, and all the probs were solveable.

Admittedly I will use Vista when I build my new comp, but it will only be for DirectX10.

I'll show my fully custom Mint in a few weeks. :) Gnome usage ftw!

Rocinante

Kept meaning to drop one of these in this thread, and finally getting around to it.  Mostly because I took the shot today so there's something worth posting.  The background is the KDE default, 'cause I never have a blank desktop that doesn't have stuff on it - if I'm looking at a desktop, I'm working on it :>

Maybe if laziness doesn't overtake me when I get home, I'll do the same for the home machine.  But it looks pretty much the same, just half as wide physically...

Well, that desktop does not work anymore. Now KDE3 works again... But, I am kind of an estimated halfway through the dependency hell that KDE4.1 brought up... .. .

TinMan

zomg, player1 did necro :o
I don't think that really matters, this thread should be allowed to be revived as new players and current players are constantly changing their desktops. I didn't have my FreeBSD fvwm2 desktop 2 weeks ago.

Ok, so after two weeks I finally managed to almost fix my dependency hell. Now I have a somewhat recent KDE4.1 RC1 "Release6" - whatever the "Release6" means. Dumb thing, after upgrading to Kernel 2.6.26 I am missing the linux-kernel-headers so I can't get the nvidia driver to compile. It will probably take some time until someone tosses it into the repos. Well...

It works much better now, except for the fact that some kconf_update process runs amok everytime I start KDE. It uses up memory completely and makes it nearly impossible to kill it via console. But, hopefully that is another issue fixed soon. Also, the desktop icons now sit in their own plasmoid called "folder view".

Here it is:

How do you remove the shit there is in the desktop icons on KDE4?

What shit?

Edit:

Ahh, maybe your thinking of the "controls" for the widgets? The icons are now widgets too, and to lay off of the "controls" just right click the desktop and click on "Lock Widgets".

TinMan

Just remove KDE and everything will be okay again.

Necromania:

opensuse 11.x Factory with KDE 4.2 RC1

That big menu in the middle is "Lancelot". A widget sort of like "Rocketbar" or similar software starters on windows. I will probably remove because I do not really use it.

KDE 4 is now in a working state.

- Working Meta-desktop (remove activies now available yeeha *g*)
- Very shiny looking oxygen theme
- The worldclock is back (Good for overseas admins like me ;O)
- Widgets work now and they added google widgets support
- pulseaudio is still fucked
- low performance problem with old(-er) drivers is now gone
- Auto-Resizing TASKBAR WORKING. That's the coolest feature I have been waiting for

Well, Dark Forces was a childhood favorite. I remember being addicted to the demo when I was about eight years old.

And CoCDCotE is simply one of the best survival horror games ever. And I just love the Cthulhu Mythos, so it's a win-win situation.

I'll post pictures of my OS X desktop when I next get the chance. I'm downloading Oblivion mods at the moment.
