looks ok, but I would suggest some really light backing, I always like my info mounted somehwere.

Just really transparent grey or summin in an aethetic shape.

Though I think thst goes against the point of this, oh well.

Just my opinion.

Yeah, I basically wanted to sacrifice aesthetics for total functionality.  Eliminating the little transparent backgrounds unclutters the screen, which allows me to move the important elements lower and free up more space for easy aiming / spotting.

One spot I think could use something else is that lonely stamina meter...I am going to work on redoing the stamina meter so it looks better and is easier to see.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Where are the spines in the Adv Goon located i n the screen?
I mforgot to check..

Anyway.

I would like:

More Noticable health, I found myself having to concentrate on the HUD rather than the dretch flying at me to find out my HP.

Make it more noticable.

Larger icons for what equipment you have, and also it isnt good crushed down in the corner, you should have it arranged up the side mebbe.

Its really out of the way, so your eyes need to have a good wander while you (in mid fight) try to change weapon or throw a nade.

MORE NOTICABLE!

I mlove the stamina bar.
The timer icon in center is great.

One thing you could do is group them together with light grey, nerar transparent backgrounds, so subconsciesly people will know where to find the info they want.

Stamina Bar should have its own box

So should health

Ammo, Gun type and clips should be in one

the icons should be in another.

Also, if you could, could you make the health writing turn red before it gets below, say, 30, that would make it a more demanding presence, rather than fighting for ages, not seeing the steady dropping of health, thinking your fine, when actually ur on 3 hp, then, BAM, your dead, and your left thinking, I wish I was warned. As well as this the health looks a little indistinctive sitting their on its own, something should TELL you its HP, make you wary of it, its just a nondescript number ATM.

Maybe turn the crosshair red below 30HP, its a unique idea I believe.

So, to do:

Make Health more noticable.
Turn it red on low health.
Make crosshair go red at <30hp.

Group areas in really light, near transparent unobtrusive boxes, minimalistic.

Define health a bit more.
Use up prime center-bottom space mebbe.
Make the equipment more easy reading.

peripheral vision

The icons text and everything are made easily large enough to notice your health ammo, all at once. Keep your eyes on the dretch, and use that exterior vision.

I get so absorbed by owning, I want to know in a microsecond what my health and ammo is.

With this I have to wait until the fight has stopped (on of us dead) or until a wee break in the duel to the death tioll I check my stats out.

ShadowNinja, Thanks very much for all the feedback!  I really appreciate your opinion, because it probably represents that of many other potential users.  Here's what I have to say:

I agree the human health is kind of in an awkward position right now.  I wanted to make it close enough to the center of the screen that you can see it easily, but far enough away from the ammo indicator that you don't get them confused.  I will see if there is a slight adjustment that can make it more visible.

As for the transparent backgrounds, I see where you are coming from but I have to say I'm not going to budge on this.  The idea of this HUD is that it has no elements that don't convey some sort of important information.

As for HP below 30 making the health red, I totally agree this would be a killer feature.  Problem is, there is no simple way to implement this.  The health number is drawn by a function within the Tremulous source that is not accessible from a HUD configuration file - I would have to make a full .pk3 mod that would probably not work on pure servers.  What I can do is - and thank you for inspiring me to have this idea - this:

There is a cross on the default HUD that turns red when you drop below 10 HP.  If I somehow used this function on the health number, I could make it change colors when you drop below 10 HP.  I think that's the best I could do.

The last thing I'd like to comment on is the inventory.  Putting it up the side of the screen is extremely distracting in my experience.  You have to understand that to an extent I created this HUD for myself (and players like me) and I use custom binds to access all of my inventory items specifically - in other words, I never use weaprev and weapnext (which is busted on the mouse wheel in Mac anyway).  The point is, under these conditions the inventory becomes less important - I only need it to check what gear I am carrying.  That was my justification for putting it in the corner.  My advice is:  get some binds, they are far more efficient anyway.  Not to say that they are necessary to use this HUD - Circle uses weapprev and weapnext and has no problem.  The challenge with the inventory was to have a place to put it where it would have enough space to display all items at once, while not interfering with vision or overpowering the more important indicators.  I think the corner design is a great compromise of all these needs.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Sounds good!  :D

I just wanted to make it sound all as harsh and as much of it as I could, cos thats what I would want.

I understand about the background bits, and Im sure there must be another way to do it.

And I did all the trouble to make Warrior's hud do that  :(

sounds well! :D
It only needs a speed indicator (units per second), than it would be perfect :D

Maybe consider adding in one of those poison indicators (the skull and crossbones things) though not completely neccessary (you should know when your poisoned) its damned useful so you dont pass it on (TremX).

And just for the knowledge.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned already but look at the last two pictures from the first post.
The first one is fine but the second one (dretch) the "25" health count is off-centered.

@insertnamehere: It is mentioned :P

The one thing that would be a reason I wouldn't use this is that there is no radar for seeing friendlies on human. I use it alot to see if someones following me, or if we still have a base, without having to look.

unless you're playing on unpure servers (in which case go away lamer), there is no way to show friendlies on your radar.

sorry, there's no way to center that two-digit HP value. The box is right-aligned and if I centered it, the 3-digit values would look like crap.

I verify that the blue bleeps are not present on my HUD, though I have absolutely no idea why.

I am weighing whether I should try to fix the problem, because they could get annoying when battling near base.  I don't really use the blue bleeps.  I will try to fix this issue and see whether it impairs vision near the base.

Wow i can't believe i missed that. I guess i was too distracted with the pictures. How about adding a "0" placeholder. But i guess that would ruin this hud's purpose.

Nice :) I'd just like to point out that your README says cg_displayScannerPlane rather than cg_disableScannerPlane, in case you have a 2.1 release :P Thanks for commenting the code, as well, so I knew how to delete alien crosshairs, heh. Never did like them. Great job, Comp.

w00p..good catch lol.  I don't think it merits 2.1, I'll just sneak it in there.

Thanks man!

Update:  Fixed.

Update:  This is no longer an issue, because now there's an installer that will run that command for you!

I suppose so, but they would have to be a) friendly and b) stationary right smack dab in the middle on top of the build timer.  Even then, the blip would have to still be slightly visible because both it and the build timer are transparent.

For 1.2 it would be cool if you could pick your mod that comes with it.  :-?
