Mexel's HUD v1.1
« on: September 15, 2007, 09:44:52 pm »
So after much debate with my buddy Exclamation I came up with a HUD. It's unique in it's own right. Not much different from stock other than the team overlay, stage kills counter, and the humans full screen radar.

So without further adue, I present my HUD:

 DOWNLOAD HUR

Screen shots are on our site here:

U CLICKEY AND LOOKEY

So the install is simple,

1. Download, extract, (unzip or similar) create a folder inside root base (C:\Program Files\Tremulous\Base) called "ui" and place the files within that newly created "ui" folder. Open up tremulous, toggle the console (~) and type "/exec ui/mud_install.cfg". Thats that!

To uninstall:

open up tremulous, toggle console (~) and type "/exec ui/mud_uninstall.cfg"

Big thanks to the following people:
Clay[Born] - For the original FS radar, and stagekills.
}MG{Exclamation - For being there to help me test and debug
and help on what it should look like
Warrior - For looking at yer .menus to see how stuff worked
Hellrider - For the Team Overlay
Computer[SU] - For helping me with the basic understanding of this overall project.

Last but not least, if someone could add this to the HUD catalog, that'd be 1337, Thanks.

Added to the catalogue, tell me if you'd like a different picture.

I'm going to play with it for a bit before I review it.

@ the pic, I don't really care as long as it's not the loading screen. It has graphic language on it. Don't feel like having to hear from enraged parents.

I love the human HUD :)

Its really nice at the bottom. It reminds me of a car display. all in 1 area with circles and all.

I don't like the ammo count right under the target though :x

EDIT: don't like the giant ass target either for humans

Another thing I hate is that you can only see the 1 item you have selected (IE: you cant always see if you got a medkit.

Works fine.

@ turt. Well I designed this HUD to the way *I* like, That being said. Console will output "You do not have a medkit" if you do not have one ....

In other enws I'm trying to find out how to get the Health and Money onto my Team Overlay, like in Arcade. But can't find it anywhere... :'(

*doesn't*

And secondly, You CAN see with helm on. If you read the readme.txt, you would've noticed that the "regular" human radar has been changed to what Clay[Born] has created. I merely just used what he made and gave him MUCH credit for it. If you're having problems with my HUD, may i suggest this:

Open up Tremulous, toggle console (~) and type "/exec ui/mud_uninstall.cfg"

Of the people that *have* downloaded my HUD and have played with it all agreed there are some small fixes that are needed in the next version. Nonetheless they all seem to like what I've done.

a turret, I'm not flaming you. Just listen, if there's a bug/problem let me know. Either here my site, or by e-mail, hell drop by our server once in a while and say hi.

Thats simply what I am doing.

I completely love your HUD except for the helmet.
Heres is what I mean

As you can see, you can barely even see XD
If you like that, I suggest to atleast turn down the opacity or something, because I am pretty sure its just not me with a problem seeing past the blue.

BTW Mexel, you aren't crazy. When I run your mod, the scanner plane thing is disabled. Except, I sometimes have a problem where Tremulous is full-screen but ignores approximatley 50-65 pixels on all sides. However, this happens even if I uninstall your mod so I just scratch my head and live with it.

I like your HUD, definately an improvement over the default one. The ammo at the crosshairs used to trip me up, now, however, it has grown on me and I like it that way. Makes me take my eyes off the crosshair less when human.

I was wondering if it would be possible to remove the ammo at the crosshair when it would be 0 0 (basically when you have a blaster or a saw). If not, it's really not annoying, just useless.

The human HUD is just about perfect. If only I could see the previous and next item in my inventory (or all of them?) then it would be slightly improved, but I've basically figured out how the inventory system works so I know where stuff is anyway, thus it doesn't matter to me.

Also, the energy for humans could possibly be improved. You aren't using the rest of the circle for anything, so making the entire outside of the circle be your energy would be more beneficial, but, again, only a minor improvement.

The whitish color of the aliens wouldn't be my first choice, but it would probably come in 3rd - 5th if I were to make a list and try them for myself. It works great sometimes and, on a rare occasion, makes me squint cause the backround is basically white. Other than that minor concern, I see nothing wrong with the alien HUD in the least.

The only last concern I have is that I need to press TAB from time to time to get the "Pwnage" column working properly. When the kills for that -person change it sometimes displays the number they had before the kill and sometimes goes straight to 0. If you can develop a work around it would make your HUD marginally better.

Maybe its me but when I play as alien my HUD's circles are at the default position and aren't in the middle... Maybe I changed a piece of the code by mistake.

@ Qzip: Thanks, my goal was to center the eyesight and lessen the travel they have to do when looking at say the stamina bar, which was in the *far* left corner. So i centered as much as i could. The team overlay, well it only updates when you die, or press tab. I may do away with this feature. Not quite sure though.

@DK: Heh editing stuff without prior knowledge can be a bit interesting. Tip: to move something use the numbers next to "rect", to color something use the numbers that are in RGBA format,

      R    G   B   A
ie: 0.0 0.0 0.0 1.0 - (1.0 is white 100%opacity) while:
     1.0 1.0 1.0 0.5 - (is black with 50% opacity)

Tinker with it and see what you get.

For everyone else, v1.2 is out and on our site, I'm just to lazy to update it here. Still some minor tweaks needed like the aliens cross-hair-names need some beefin' up. Thanks for all the comments guys, it helps me a lot!

I love 1.2 It fixes my alien problem BUT I think your HP being near the cross hair is alittle too big, but that might take awhile to get use to.
