Wanna participate in a Free Software games tourney?
« on: September 24, 2007, 10:46:08 pm »
I would like to announce the gaming tournament that is being prepared by Nuxified.org and Cluenet.org with the purpose of promoting games that are Free Software and show that gaming on Free Software platforms such as GNU/Linux is very well alive.

Some of the games likely to be included are:

Nexuiz
OpenArena
Tremulous
BZFlag
Battle For Wesnoth

So yes, actually by popular vote, Tremulous is very likely included. :)

We are already accepting sign ups until the end of the month when we will do the final preparations (make the final decision about game lists, split into teams, set up brackets and times of first matches etc.).

The whole tournament is being planned and discussed public and in cooperation with our community including the very players that are going to participate.

So how about that? :)

Cheers!

Hello.
Thankyou for letting the community know.
I hope this works.
Unlike a other Lan meeting or something like that failed.

HamStar, all links work here.. could have been a network glitch perhaps?

About that other LAN meeting you guys are mentioning, do you have any references, just to see what was the idea and why it failed.

Thanks guys.

Still doesn't work for me. One of the reasons why it failed was poor use of grammar, and yours does not have that problem. Another was that the comminuty was split into 2 sides, one supporting the tournemant and the other saying GTFO! Hope it heled yah ;)

Heh thanks. :)

About site not working... I've no idea.. But it sometimes happened to me that I couldn't access a certain site even though a whole world can.. I suppose there are sometimes cracks in the routing or something.. Weird.. :\

Anyway.. we have just released a final call and a couple of videos about the tourney. If you'd like you can help spread the word by digging it here: http://digg.com/linux_unix/The_first_Freedomware_Gaming_Festival_warming_up_videos_available

It's international, not a LAN. :D You can't really be too far away. The biggest issue you might have is latency, but most people should be fine.

Cheers

Like I said on IRC, with 20 ppl that signed up for _all_ offered games...
This is way to few to actually play anything.

Things can change by the day Caveman, and they do: http://www.nuxified.org/blog/tux_project_gets_behind_the_freedomware_gamefest_2007

Support for this project is growing and even if it causes a bit of delay for its sake, we will likely end up with many more players than we have now.

That said, most people who signed up specified either Nexuiz or Tremulous or both as their preferred game meaning that Tremulous may actually have enough players to have a few decent matches. Even if we'd have only two teams doesn't mean that they can't play multiple times with multiple maps and changing roles between humans and aliens in order to determine the winning team in the end.

This might not be somebody's idea of a great tournament, but as only one component of the larger thing, which we call a Gamefest, I think it is significant.

And.. after all, by joining you increase the number by a whole 1. ;)

Anyway, regarding that update (linked above), we will have a web shop for this festival which will sell T-Shirts with logos of games included. WInners can get a free T-Shirt of the game they won. :)

For this we need high resolution logo of Tremulous, for a Tremulous shirt. Anyone knows where can I get that?

Thank you

Thanks to Caveman we now have a server dedicated to the tourney. It has been listed in our game servers thread.

While it's public now it would have to be closed for participants of the tourney only once the matches start.

Btw, I've written an FAQ in an attempt to help make things clearer. :)

Cheers!
