some naive and inconsistent ramblings on tjw experiment mod
« on: September 28, 2007, 11:08:48 pm »
i played some games over some time there, had some thoughts, i have posted them here anticipating some thoughtfull discussion.

i feel like basi gas would be more usefull if it covered a larger area, it would at least suggest that it was having some effect on the humans within in. maybe it could stay around the slightly longer too, tho it might have a longer charge time to balance this out somewhat.

text is all skewwiv for me on the tjw server, i can provide a screenshot if you arent aware of this.

crosshair dots (the little red dot in the center of the cross hair) for non shooting alien (ie anything other than adv. granger / adv goon) feels slightly wrong/confusing.

when i join tjw server my clan tag is docked from the name for some reason. - should be "[Derelict]gareth" but is shown as "gareth". also when i rejoined the server after a router restart it renamed me to unnamedplayer, which is wierd, because it recognised that i had  disconnected and gave me my credits back.

dretches not attacking turrets feels like a total nerf. so does the elongated tyrant charge.

ps. (things that feel like) nerfs are not fun.

the higher tyrant camera makes the tyrant feel much bigger, i much like it.

chaingun view shake is broken - very jerky?

some random ideas:

maybe more points should be gotten for killing (most % or whatever not just last shot) something that is harder to kill eg goon rather than dretch, otherwise people just go for the dretch/unarmoured human all the time when attacking away from their base.

like the new progress bar for aliens, humans looks kinda bland, decon icon makes no sense: its not to do with the health of the unit so whys it in the progress bar, it could be on top of the bar instead, also could look more like what it means, like this handy mockup:

there :)

It's a different "fs_base". You have to move your binds / autogen.cfg to the "tjw" folder in your hidden Tremulous folder.

basi gas is already a little too useful

giving credits back is independent of ip, any semi-modern server with name protection enabled will not allow you to take the name of another player, when you came back with a new ip it saw you as a different player.

a single dretch being able to take all the turrets to 1/3 hp before dying was stupid. tyrant charge is massively buffed (it has a large knockback, it hits the same target multiple times, and it no longer instantly releases when it gets to full charge so you have much more control over when you actually charge).

Tee-Jay-Double-You is a God. Not just a god, but a got of a realm known only as dev-land. I worship him, not only for porting Tremulous to the Mac, but also for his revolutionizing of Tremulous, along with Norfenstein.

True, I don't agree with all of his changes, but I know they will be good in the long run.

Yes, up to three. Maybe you haven't noticed because you rarely kill one by yourself to get the full credit. We've had this for quite a long time, and we're planning to make it even more fair in the future.

Works for me. I suspect it'll work for you too once 1.2 is all packaged up properly.

No idea what you're referring to here.

Why would we want two rows of information when one works perfectly well? The "unpowered" icon goes in there too, if you hadn't noticed. Think of it as a status bar instead of a health bar. I like your icon, but I think with the size it's displayed in-game just having the cycling arrows is probably more clear. We do still need a "no overmind" icon for alien structures - reusing the human lightning bolt thing is a little off...

To "guest", who is probably f0rqu3, whose post I deleted: If you all you have to say is deconstructive, please keep it to yourself. The feedback forum here actually serves a purpose and I hold the posts here (at least in the reasoned, respectful threads) to a higher standard than in general. Thank you.

Please, "guest" or "forqu3" or whoever you are, take your flaming ramblings elsewhere. Try to make a constructive post, as this is the feedback. Your feedback could be "this game sucks like a vacuum 'n' stuff i no rite", however you shouldn't repeat it continuously.
