My server is on the LAN please help
« on: October 31, 2007, 02:55:45 am »
Ok....
 Let me start

My server is on the LAN list despite my efforts (I am the only one who can see it also, i understand it should show up on the LAN list for me) I have tried port forwarding, changing the port on my server also port forwarding to that.

My Servers Name Gamemonn's Server (it says [UPD] after it)
My servers address is 10.0.1.2:30721

I start my server in Terminal with this code
Code: [Select]
/Applications/Tremulous/tremded.ub +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg
I was told to change my servers port to enter this
Code: [Select]
/Applications/Tremulous/tremded.ub +set dedicated 2 +exec server.cfg +set net_port 30721 (yes i wanted 30721 instead of 30720)

I have Power PC Mac
I have high speed internet Comcast
I have The airport extreme
My IP adress is 10.0.1.140
My external IP address is 71.197.106.29.
I went here
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Apple/AirPortExtreme/AirPortExtremeindex.htm
to try and get help for my tremulous port forwarding no guide so i did the one for quake 3 (bad idea, didn't work)
I port forwarded to my servers address

My Question:
Do i have to start my server with  the +set net_port thing at the end every time?
How can i tell if my server is dedicated i think i might some how be pure.
How do i get my Server on the master list so that other people can join?
Any advise?

Dedicated = Up All The Time
To check if it's pure, run "sv_pure". If the result is "1", it is. If it is "2", it isn't.

To get it on the master list, you need port forwarding. Try checking your firewall settings.

It appears that you have an Airport Router, so check the settings on the router.

To check your firewall, go to Apple_Menu/System Preferences/Services/FireWall, or on Leopard, Apple_Menu/System Preferences/Security/FireWall.

In the image you linked, you forwarded the port to your computer.  You need to forward it to your server, or else the packets for the server will never get back to it as they're going to your computer, not the server.

Once you've done that, everything else should work fine.

It appears he's running the server on his computer.

If that were the case, then it would work, since "my server's address" isn't the one he claimed to put in the forward, but "my IP" is. :P

Do NOT test the server by running the client from the same box!

Even though it is started with an external IP it will only show up on the lan-list. Connecting to the server will work with both lan- and external- ip. But for the client running on the same box it will never show up on the server-list.

Its not my ip address. My servers address seems to be different (my server seems to be my routers ip address)

If that does not fit your problem, use google by yourself. You are not experiencing a problem unique to Tremulous, rather a basic one common to loads of different games.
