Hehe.. some funny guesses here.  No, it's not "pink bat tetris" (Probably my favorite guess thus far), nor birds.  The game isn't by Sierra, but it does deal with aliens.  Those are three alien ships (left to right being further to closer) coming in for an attack.

Nope, none of those.  It was published by Atari, and this version is for the Atari 800 though there were ports of the game to other platforms as well.  Fighting enemy pilots is one part (as well as a few larger ships that take another strategy), and you could fly to their homeworld and perform bombing run on their shipbuilding factories.

Aww crap.  All the times I've played this game, and I only just realized it's an unreleased beta

The game title I was looking for is "The Last Starfighter" (yes, based on the movie).  However, it was never officially released with that title, but instead reworked into what became Star Raiders 2.  So infy gets the point.
