TJW backport client lags.
« on: December 02, 2007, 10:54:09 am »
Alright, I've got and used the TJW backport client. I have openSUSE 10.3. I have a 2.66ghz cpu and a Nvidia FX5200 128mb vcard and 760~ ram. My FPS is usually 90 consistent or 60 if I get unlucky, when I'm using the normal executable. Now my problem is that whenever I'm near a base, my FPS drops to about 15, even with the "fastest" setting for graphics. It only happens with the backport. Thought you should know. Also a way to fix it would be nice.

It's not the backport but a problem on your side. Make sure you aren't running any other application's (For example download clients) in the background. It could also be possible that the server is more crowded or you joined a server which gives you a higher ping.

I can only assure you that it isn't the backport and such I don't think it's fixable. If your FPS is so much higher then I suggest switching to the stock one.

I've had the same problem for the longest time. The older version didn't lag at all - the new one does. The only solution I have found is to go with the regular client. Sorry I couldn't be much help, but if you can find an older version of the TJW client from someone else you should be ok :D
Clan {Jo|So} were clan {No|Shows} at todays war between them..

The Magma Warriors are pissed off you wasted our time, and I have decided I will DOS attack your server, I have a program for that. Unless you want to get your asses on, and do a 3 on 3 or 4 on 4.

All I know is that it ONLY happens around bases AND only when I LOOK at them. Also the only that is open when I play tremulous is Kopete. And yes, I've been using the stock one the whole time.

You can try a different client (like this one) and see if that makes a difference, but that is weird if it's only with tjw's client and only near bases. When I had an issue with tjw's client on one of my systems, I was consistently getting below 5fps (solved by just recompiling).

If your window manager has any special effects (e.g. wobbly/stretchy windows), turn them all off.
