AoD Alive (Explaining myself)
« on: December 13, 2007, 07:21:13 am »
I missed the Alliance of Defiance. I know it is unintelligent to bring a clan back even once, and how unimaginably foolish it will seem to bring it back a second time.

I had a pretty good thing going with NT, and I hate to leave Dracone so soon. Drac's a great leader, and he's a nice guy, too. I am fully aware of how unreliable I have been, and this is my insignificant apology.

It does not matter what clan I promise loyalty, members of other clans will hate me for not choosing their banner instead. The only solution is to be myself, and this is the only way I know how.

I recognize my failures as a leader, and to be honest, I'm not sure if I can surmount those roadblocks. I am not a adequate tactician, and my skills are on par at best. I have trouble putting troublemakers in their place, and I am not a recruiter by any means. I have never attracted many skilled members. (Though several have become skilled while in the clan.) I have never led a clan that top players have even considered joining when their clan dies/isn't right for them.

I know that no matter how we try, we will not overcome a clan like AA, or OPP. I don't know if it is strategy we lack most, or raw skill, but there is something. I cannot say I don't care if we win. I want to win, of course, I just don't know how.

Basically, I want everyone to know that I understand the foolishness of my actions. I do intend to proceed with them, however, and I will try my best. I am asking that if you are a skilled player, at least talk with me and the other clan leaders, and consider all your options, before you join AA. They have a monopoly on talent right now, and I implore you to join someone that needs you.

If anyone thinks they can help us: teaching scrim strategies, introducing new bases, organization (such as practices), general playing, or in any other way; I am in no way too proud to accept your help, and, regardless of who you are, here your suggestions and try them out.

Heh, I've always liked AoD glad to see it back, don't drop it this time, again.....    :P  I'd join but I'm held up and I'd just down your skill level anyway.

We'd be glad to have some practices with ya though on the ms clan server.

Come play us, Its been awhile since we have.(Finals for me+homework) We can make it a practice kind of thing, that could benefit both our clans.  I am willing to share everything I know.  We really need to get back into the groove of scrimming. Plus I got a new member to teach.  Also anyone is welcome on our teamspeak during a scrim as long as they are quiet.

I am thinking of trying some balance changing settings, like turning share off. I notice 2 good clans, will only win as aliens. Or though human extreme camping.

I noticed that too, but share a lot of times is a better benefit to humans than aliens.  When you are 3 creds short of a shotty helm, it is a lot easier for a teammate to share you 3 than you try to fight and end up feeding with something lesser.  Not so much in scrims though because of the excessive camping and careful strategies.  You don't really rush out as much.

I may not be great, but I generally consider myself an above average tactician, at the very least. I'm also pretty damn good at building. I'll help out. You guys have a server yet?

Hi Ozzy, I hope you remember me. You gave me a great shot when i was just a lowly player coming out of the broken }F{ clan. You gave me my first big break. Thank you for all of your help and support durring my first months on Trem. I'm here to wish you luck with AoD, and to let you know that you will always have an ally in |F2F|. If you need anything at all, feel free to ask. Good Luck buddy.

The fact of the matter J-cool, is that AA does indeed have a massive monopoly on skilled members. Ozzy is right imploring that skilled players go see clans that truly need them instead of feeding the AA monster more good members. There is no point in being number 1 if there is nobody to fight you for the spot. The fact that AA has so many good members puts other clans in jeopardy right out of the gate. They have nothing to build on unless they discover a diamond in the rough. It is forcing every other caln in Tremulous to train every member they get and that takes time, while AA sits on the number 1 throne and controls numbers 2 - infinity without a challenger.

What about OPP, NT, and V.  They give AA a run for their money.  In fact if V would organize and play at the same place.  They would be a lot better than AA.  I see quiet a few AA members at my server like j-cool and none of them hold up to anger.  No one whose ever connected to my server(that isn't also in v) holds up to anger.  Anger has 20 kills within 3-4 minutes almost every round.  No matter who is on the other team.  The only time anger loses is if no one on his team builds and we get a lucky base rush or lestrange is on the other team.  :P  I will agree, however, that AA holds a monopoly over the amount of skilled players.  They have 3-4 players like yahoo, shade, bug, and I'm drawing blanks here :P that are better than the best of most of other clans and the other 10-15ish of their members are all at the level of the upper of other clans.  If that makes any sense.  They have competition though its just not showing itself much. :P

Come on guys where is your guys sense of competition?  If you never have anyone to compete with how do you get better?  No one can have a monopoly of good players there are 1,000's.  Why not try helping some newer players you see with good aim? Teach them some team tactics.

Individual skill matters but not as much as coordination, and teamwork.  AA is a good clan because they try and combine the 2, not because their members have individual skill. So even if you don't have the skill levels, you can get the teamwork.

Once finals are done with this week I plan to be on scrimming a lot during my time off. Come by our server after thursday.

It is forcing every other caln in Tremulous to train every member they get and that takes time, while AA sits on the number 1 throne and controls numbers 2 - infinity without a challenger.

This is what I've been preaching for quite some time now.

I have *always* agreed with BeerBastard, that training newer players is the way to go, and it helps the community more than just finding the best players. The problem is, despite any talent I myself may possess, if I recruit just two or three newer players right off the bat, then *no* skilled players want to join.

I've got some existing members from the old AoD still around, great guys, too. But as far as recruiting goes, I'm holding out for some big talent. I haven't recruited a single player yet, but I've been harassing some of the best players every chance I get.

The problem is the depth in the roster. You can't win a scrim with two great players on a team, and two newish but okay players, when you're battling 4 good-great players with 10 more good players on spec to sub in at any time. If AA needs a sub, they just put in Yahoo, no big deal. If I need a sub, I'm literally getting on AIM trying to convince Vindication to reinstall tremulous this second. :P

And sadly, as Red_x says, I need a diamond in the rough. Really I need about 4 diamonds. Denton was one, guess where he's at now. Suvi was one, guess his clan, too. The worst part is that I've always wanted players with good character, in addition to skill. A skilled player when you're desperate is enough to make you consider compromising your values quickly. :(

On a completely un-related note, though I love this discussion, I wanna thank you all for being so nice and helpful in the revival of my little clan. You all had the chance to be super-jerks, but I really didn't see any of that. Of course, Dracone's not back yet, and he's going to kill me. =/

True, OPP, NT and V do give us a run for our money but, don't look at public games and compare it to scrims, theres a big difference. And next time we scrim one of them you should come and watch.

This is the same thing that happened months ago when I was in Zubs

There have always been 2-3 dominant clans.  I doubt it'll change, sadly.

Hence, scrims will always suck.

Right now they are AA and OPP, before they were V and OPP, before that they were Zubs, Xil and OPP, before that they were NT, OPP, Xil (I think it was alive then), etc

run on fragments i like that combination

Btw those clans weren't listed in order so ye
