blood stains, or at least some sort of reaction to being shot >.<

im getting rather annoyed at the 0.4 second blood splats humans suffer.
i had to watch someone forever in spectator to notice that tremulous actually had blood, i think that tremulous should have longer blood splats and some sort of blood stains when it hits a wall etc, i know it would only be a rather small detail, but i absolutely hate it when i shoot a tyrant at least 30-40 times with a rifle, and it seems to have no effect whatsoever.
and if tremulous was meant to be blood-free, at least make it so aliens make some sort of sound when shot, or if they already did, make it at least somewhat louder :S.
and maybe an option to turn it off, for those who dont like it.

sorry if im missing something/sound stupid/etc, i'm rather new to tremulous, and the forum aswell :S

While the current blood effects are not hard to see at all, gibs are one of the very few things that Tremulous really needs, in my view.

Indeed. However, when a car-sized alien puts a metre long chopper through a human I expect at least some level of dismemberment. In the same way that I expect yellow mist when a luci ball meets a dretch.

ChaosSquirrel

True, but you forget, Tremulous is for the kiddies! Or, maybe not. Either way, excessive gore takes the point out of a game, and, in my experience, turns it into an "HA! I KILL YOU! BLEEEEEDD!!!!" game, where all the noobs waste their ammo/time on some carcass. Not conducive to a good experience. However, blood stains, like in Oblivion, would add something...

Not as gory as i'd liked. I've played SoF and i've seen how it's engine allowed the dismemberment of ALL limbs. It was quite fun, back then.

Now try imagine having the trem engine render a human getting sliced in half by a 'rant. That'd be gory, indeed.

Of course, the little blood spurts are the same size for every projectile that hits an alien, or for every alien attack on a human. It is unrealistic, but it's been said before that Tremulous isn't intended to become extremely realistic in the first place.

If you wanted to make it very realistic, for example, rant slashes would kill battlesuits just instantly. If an explanation for battlesuits being very good against rant slashes was made and they COULDN'T kill battlesuits in one hit, then what also would be required is the structures to take MANY rant slashes, unless special explanations were made for THAT. It's all really the factors of imagination in the devs' heads, of course.

I'd be totally happy with Quake3-style gibs and bloodstains.

Taiyo.uk

So long as the same gibs aren't used for both teams - in other games with gibs, it looks bad when the same nondescript lumps of red meat spurt from humans, robots, aliens and monsters of all different kinds.

Survivor

Pool of blood under dead bs
Gibs and blood for anything below bs.
'Blood' and an amount of gibs depending on the size of the alien killed for the aliens.

Would seem the sane way to implement it.
I'm busy. I'll ignore you later.

Lava Croft

At a certain amount of damage, a character is gibbed. This would mean that a low HP Tyrant stepping on a grenade should gib too, imo. Or a Battlesuit for that matter.

ChaosSquirrel

Gibbing is a bit overrated. Why? It simply adds gore. Great, now the Halo noobs will play Trem. Wow. Seriously, gibs just make a game comical. And stupid. Exception, sword games. Explosives usually don't gib into a million little chunks. Usually.

Last I checked Halo doesn't have gibs, just ragdoll bodies.

You fail to reply properly to Odin's post. You say all the Halo noobs will start to play Tremulous once gibs are added. Since Halo does not have gibs, I wonder what the hell you are talking about.

On the other hand, you are truly fullfilling your destiny as a person who is full of shit.

Whatever, Sir "I"M SELF IMPORTANT!!! I ATTACK AND SWEAR AND HARASS WITHOUT LEAVING TIME FOR A REPLY!!!!". The reason is, some noobs play "M" or otherwise bloody and gory games, just for blood and gore. It doesn't matter that Halo only has blood. Heck, I don't like Halo (too twitchy, though it's one of three shooters I'm good at) though I have played it, and most of the people who play are ten year old noobs attracted to the M rating and blood and gore. And they suck. Like you.

Still your argument holds absolutely no ground, since Halo is one of the more timid FPS games when it comes to graphical violence. Also, I am pretty sure people do not play games because they have blood and gore, people play games because they are fun to play, with or without gibs.
I dont see the relation between only wanting to play games which have blood and gore and being a 'noob'. While the motivation for only wanting to play games with blood and gore might be questionable, it has very little to do with being 'noob'.

It's good to see your general knowledge about games is about as non-existent as your knowledge about Tremulous.

PS: I suck better than you. Ask maci.

ChaosSquirrel

Again, slanderous bashing does nothing.

I personally avoid games with high amounts of blood/gore. These make me a bit... psycho... for about two hours after playing...

OK, Tremulous definitely needs blood, gore, dismemberment, nudity and profanity.

Tremulous could use some more blood just some blood splats for a few seconds which then disappear. Slight gibs would be alright but a tyrant in like 12 parts ... ye... not really coherent with the rest of the game.

If you want a game with some good gibs - urban terror - . shoot someone's head and see it explode >.>. but ya, gibs should be good for trem butjust not too much.

techhead

It would be nice if two things happened:
A. Every time you take damage you bleed (except for 1s)
B. Amount of blood scales to amount of damage.

That way, a goon getting one-shot-killed with a lucifer will bleed more than a blaster in the face.
Also, making dead bodies NOT bleed would prevent people shooting the floor instead of the enemy.

One last note, Trem does indeed have gibs. If you turn it off, you don't see parts of buildings fly out when they die.

Good point techhead. As for non-structure gibs, so long as you don't go overboard (and it's very easy to go overboard) then I'd be ok with that. I wouldn't say trem needs it though.

Oh and I'll mention I love TF2 gibs. >.>

Taiyo.uk

Current bleed effect = too little, rocket arena in Nexuiz = too much (for trem, it's just right in nex :) ).

The quantity and type of gibs and the colour of blood is species dependent, how about something along the lines of:

Dretch: A yellow smear
Basilisk: A few claws
Marauder: Some claws plus a few lumps of flesh
Dragoon: A leg or two plus lumps of flesh
Tyrant: A chopper, a leg, a recognisable part of the large head and large lumps of flesh
Human: A limb or two, a skull and some meat and organs
Battlesuit: Meat plus broken pieces of the suit

ChaosSquirrel

Meh, too much blood and gore turns it into a killfest, instead of a more careful ?strategic? fps. Why? Gore. It's rewarding.

Your logic is flawed. How does adding blood and gore to a game remove or descrease its strategic elements? And how does adding blood and gore make Tremulous more of a 'killfest' that it is now?

Taiyo.uk

I doubt that adding gibs will detract from the game. My only concern being that they should be a client-side option as crowded fights with gibs would eat too many FPS for some players.

ChaosSquirrel

My logic may be flawed, but, in a strange way, it works. Many people play for the rewarding splatter of blood or chunk of flesh from  a kill, instead of proper game play or teamwork.
