Had somebody come onto the NT|Clan Server (which I host) and attempt to social the rcon password out of me. Just a warning.

I wonder if the important reason he posted this was to warn Rcon carriers, as well as any admins who see that IP or name, of this scam? Something like that could save the trouble of listening to the dumbass try to get the Rcon out of you maybe?

Again, just for Dracone:

Any kind of drama relating to your server are to be dealt with on the forums/IRC channel belonging to your server. If everybody starts posting warnings here about people, all is lost. This goes for deconners, cheaters as well as people trying to sqeeuze the rcon password out of you.

I disagree.
This is something new that people aren't aware of, and therefore need to be warned about.
We all know about aimboters and deconers, so warnings are just noise.

When pol started harvesting GUID's it was announced here, has servers kept it entirely in-house then it would have taken longer to get the necessary discussion and "fix".  The same for q3fill, if no one talked about it then those firewall rules wouldn't be in that sticky.  The same for serous QVM bugs, and other bugs, and when the first aimbots came out.
This affects all servers and as such should be posted for all server operators to see.

And posting a log that might as well be pure fabrication serves as a warning? How does harvesting GUID's or using q3fill in any way relate to the retarded administrator that gives out his rcon password to people he does not know?

Both the harvesting of GUID's as well as the (ab)use of q3fill can be 'fixed', social interaction can not be fixed, and as such posting warnings of that kind serves no purpose.

But meh, if you want to have 'warnings' like this and actually think it will help anyone, I won't stop you.

People are retards.  Warnings make them think slightly more, therefore helping as part of a "fix".

I've always gone by this: If a person is willing to try to cause trouble one way, who's to say he won't cause trouble in other ways? That's why I think that NO punishment dished out by an admin is EVER really too harsh, unless the punishment was for an accident.

The point is that no one knows if that's all this guy is willing to do. He's a griefer, obviously, and that's that, and should be perma/subnet banned wherever he goes.

Sorry, but that person is so fail. He obviously knows nothing about coding and that's why only an 11 year old would fall for that scheme. But, as we are being warned about f.e. false flash updates or the ssl disaster, I don't think this warning is superflous.

+1, whats the point of having a forums section for clans or servers if we get chewed out everytime we use them?  Just because it doesn't relate to you directly doesn't mean its just "noise" and ruins the environment.  These kinds of warnings are very helpful, since a lot of server owners visit here and it would be a hassle to post on every server's forums about it.  The whole point of these forums is for group collaberation on subjects that are normally hard to address with everyone.  If half the functionalitly is disallowed from that simply because you feel its a waste of space why even bother to keep them up?

Maybe you should think like this lava, if the thread isn't hurting anyone, breaking tos, or something you're actually interested in posting in, don't even post in it.  I swear to god, half your posts here are just to mock other people's post, when they didn't do anything to deserve it.

Sorry, but I find this topic to be ridiculous. Noone should beleive complete and utter shit like this, Godmil wouldn't do this, especially in a game he made, especially on one, perticular server. If he came to my server, I would just kick him.

I'm not sure wether this warning would help anyone, only idiots wold beleive that (I'm not calling you an idiot though :P ). But people in Tremulous do tend to act "stupider" then they really are in real life. Thanks for the heads up anyways, I inform others, but I'm pretty sure this guy won't do this shitty act again, especially afer that one.
