http://tremcommands.bravehost.com -A new website by me.
« on: August 16, 2008, 10:15:41 pm »
NEWS:
I managed to pull a few stings and I paid off my Rogers internet bill for the year. As you can see, this is why I need a "free" website, because I am part of a educational video game company building educational games to third parties using the Tourque engine. So I do not have the time (Or money) to wander about trying to pay and create a website of my own.

I would accept the numorous and generous "free" website offers given to me by the members of the community, but first I would like to create a "new" extended version of my guide, so it'll be worth having a free site. So I will not accept ay free website offers until I am satisfied with a new version of my guide, but I'll keep the offers in mind.

Ok, so hello everyone, I'm Hendrich. I made a new website that focuses on giving Tremulous players the biggest list of Tremulous commands on the net because I find it was a dire need of such a guide for Tremulous. Occasionally, I would look everywhere in the internet just to find new/useful commands for Tremulous, so I decided to make one of my own on the fourms. It worked well, until I hit the 20000 character limit. So I had an idea to put up my guide on a website named www.tremcommands.bravehost.com

Anyways, this website will also feature the following:

-A huge list fo Tremulous commands
-Downloads to popular Tremulous QVMs (If I have permission)
-Guestbook
-Tremulous news (Why not? If it's gonna be about Tremulous, people should read upon it)
-And much more (If I can get my lazy butt to do it :P )

The website was launched on the internet recently, so I still say it's in beta. So far I only got the list of commands from my posts into it, and the website goes a bit slow because its hosted by a larger corporation. I made this because now I can do whatever the H311 I want without worry of a character limit. So you ca check it out right now at www.tremcommands.bravehost.com

I hope when I am done with my new guide, you will be statisfied with the results. Unfortunatley, I can predict the operation to create such a guide will be slow and steady, but going slow is the best way to achive perfection. Here is a FAQ for my project:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<<FAQ>>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, whatis the website about?

Read the above please. -.-

When is it done?

It's done, when its done. :P

Hey, I want to offer you free web space/site, intrested?

That sounds kick ass, but first I would like to get a new, extended version of my guide before I even consider something like that. That is very kind and generous of you, but I want to imrove the guide first.

So, does that mean this website is permenatley up or is it temprorary?

Right now, consider it temporary until I say so. I like to host this guide on a different site, where its faster and ad-free, and where I can host file for free, but if I cannot accpet/find such a thing, I will consider this as the official site for the guide.

Hey! this is going against the Tremulous GPL/Copyright/whatever!

First, tell me how it goes against it. I merely copyrighted it to make it look more professional, and to protect my work is anyone wants to copy the sweat and blood I put into my guide. I know, accept, understand and totally 101% agree Tremulous does not belong to me, I never said it did. Only the information based on it, which is the guide, nothing more, nothing less.

Hey, are you actually going to have QVMs hosted on your site, and why?

Well, because I decided I'm going to list commands based on the commands from certin QVMs. Sometimes people just want to look at one place to see a list of the new commands for QVMs, instead of searching the fourms to find its source and see the list of commands the author wrote down. If someone likes the commands they see on my guide, they might liek to download it. I can either host the actual QVM or give a link to it on TremCommands for easy reference.

Ok, lets say you/I asked for my QVM to be on your site. What do I get in return?

I knew this question will pop up sooner or later, so I'll awnser it right now. First off, you'll get free publicity for your QVM on a site where (hopefully) many players will go to for commands and Tremulous information. Second, people will actual think to get your QVMs, sometimes I give up on finding a QVM because I couldn't find the download link for it, or because the link is dead. My site allows 50 Mb of file storage, and mostly QVMs are somewhere around 1-5 Mb. So  I can gaurentee (until I  switch to another site) that the link will not be dead. Finally, I'll describe your QVM, link it to it's official source and host the download for free. I'll do my best to get your QVMs up-to-date to the latest version. If I cannot host your QVM, atleast maybe I can give a link to it.

Are you asking/accepting any QVMs right now?

Well, I need to create a page for the QVMs, and I have to ask for them and get them. I think when I start asking for QVMs is when I am ready to host them. Right now my top priority is the guide.

Will you credit the Tremulous Fourms/QVM Devlopers/Tremulous/Players/Etc?

First, let me make my "Credits page" on my website, then I'll start crediting. :P

Will site devlopment be long?

Expect it to be. :(

This topic is getting too long. :P

With my posts, that happens alot. XD

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<<End of FAQ>>
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, thats all I have to say, considering that I awnserd almost every question anyone had for this website. all I can say is, STAY TUNED, AND STAY AT SCHOOL!  ;D

If you're going to have a repository, I can provide a file browser. It's written in PHP.

That was the OP, therefore, he made that post before anyone offered hosting to him.

Forums and Chatrooms seems silly. We already have these forums and the irc channel with 70 people in it.

Apache has that built in.  Not to mention there are thousands of scripts out there to do it.

The web host I use doesn't do that. Many don't. Anyway, the Apache directory listings don't look very nice.

All I'm doing is saving Hendrich the trouble of Googling "PHP directory listing" and sifting through the 5 million results for something he might be able to use.

Then either your web host is brain-dead retarded, or you don't know how to turn it on.  Lots of free web hosts are that retarded and just turn everything off, but in general Options +Indexes should enable it.

Mine does.

What do you have against me offering a handy script to someone? If it isn't necessary, if the web host offers directory listings, then they don't have to use it. If, on the other hand, said web host doesn't, then they might find it useful!

Sorry, but, wtf? The web-hosting is awsome, compared to the others that I know of. But everyone complains about their web hosting, its like, by law to do that. Its like saying to Counter-Strike nerds not to complain that Steam sucks, but Steam does suck, but it's the better alternitave to getting the WON version.

If you don't understand the above, then understand this. My web-host(er) makes loading my website slow, makes ads on the top of my webpage. So its not "ad-free", so yea, I'm complaining. And your not human if you don't complain, instead your a robot, taking whoever throws shit at you. And I'm not talking about you Bissig, I'm talking to everyone but you who states that.

You're right about the chatrooms, but I like the fourms, even though the one here is much better then the one provided by bravehost. It's just that I can easily go to see if someone wants to give me a useful command in my own website then checking here to see if someone wants to give me a command(s).

Well, the script-thingy that lists all the downloads in a neat order look svery nice, I love to use it. Too bad it looks out-dated and ugly, but who cares when you get the file at the end of the day?

Because I'll be asking a bunch of people if I can host and describe thier QVM's on my site for the purpose of listing thier commands and Tremulous players using them. I win cause if soemone asks where the QVM is for a command they found, I tell them to look in the download's section and leave me alone(or at least the download to a site to the QVM). The QVM devs win, cause they get free publicity for thier QVM without paying a cent. The player wins cause they got the QVM and Oboma wins because he ain't as stupid as the other canidates.
(OK, ignore the last one :P )

So I'll need a clean interface with all the downloads looking as neat as this one: http://tremulous.bricosoft.com/base/

But, how do I get something like that into my website? :P

1. Again, several people including me offered you ad-free, free webhosting
2. I suggest using a comment function instead of a full blown forum. Empty forums look "desperate"
3. What bricolo uses is an Apache webserver feature called FancyIndexing: http://apache.active-venture.com/mod/mod_autoindex.html#fancyindexing

You can define which icons Apache should show based on certain mime types.

Yes, I offered you ad-free webhosting. I pay for the package, but since it's for Tremulous, I'll give you a subdomain and FTP.
And of course MySQL DB's, etc etc.

Holy $***, really? If I knew what sub-domain and FTP meant, I would've taken that offer. Sub domain..as in
"BLABLABLA-MYWEBSITE'S NAME" ."sub-domain goes here".com?
I dunno about that, but what does FTP mean? Usually I only see ftp when I see a 404 error. :P

If you would be kind enough to explain, I would understand.

Eh, what?

FTP = file transfer protocol. It is a way to transfer data from your computer to some webspace
subdomain = subdomain.domain.net

.net is called TOP LEVEL DOMAIN (.net, .com, .org, .us, .de, .es, .fr)
domain is, well, the domain
subdomain. is the *tadaaaaa* subdomain. F.e. www. is also a subdomain, so most only see it as a regular prepend for domains (www.domain.net).
MySQL DB = database

Btw.: It would mean that you would have to install some sort of software if you'd like something the likes of which you host now. f.e. Wordpress a blog, or a more full blown CMS or similar.

Edit: fixed typo

It makes me think that your mind is so closed to release your guides under the GLP, as tremulous is...

I'm not sure if he is breaking the GPL when he "Copyright" the guide but i'm to lazy and drunk to check it out.

I did that because it sounded, well, professional, don't you think? If I'm breaking any "copyright rules", then I would remove the content quickly.    The information I am providing is mine, but any other "stuff" (Tremulous photos, trem news, QVMs, etc.) belongs to thier respective ownes, not me. I'm not saying tremulous belongs to me, just the information based on Tremulous.
