}MG{ Archive Project
« on: September 28, 2008, 03:38:38 pm »
Hey everyone.

The Mercenaries Guild is starting an archive project in which we plan to keep many of the files floating around for historical purposes. And eventually have this be used as a repository for "files that would have been lost but isn't" and for "hard to find files". This archive project builds off of the map repository that we currently host now. Like the map repository, anyone can use this as a mirror for Tremulous related content, and if you wish to add stuff, please contact me, email located near the bottom.

We plan to include HUDs, MODs, short stories, significant screenshots and demos (What is significant should be determined later.), as well as the tools required to create tremulous mods, maps and old installers for tremulous.

So I'm here to ask you guys.
  • What else should we add
  • What demos are significant (scrimmages, tutorials, what?)
  • What is the best way to put up stories and guides?
What/who we need:
  • Modifications.
  • Significant qvm's. (lak's, google?'s, random ones)
  • The other backports.
  • Short Stories Transcribed to doc's (Or does anyone like another format, pdf?) and uploaded.
  • Mirror http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/

So far Plague Bringer will be updating the HUD portion and has already mirrored his catalog onto our archive.
And now, Volt and Tyranis are also helping out.

If you wish to help out, shoot me an email at
raytray AT mercenariesguild DOT net
The project is located at http://archive.mercenariesguild.net

Here's something that might be archive-worthy.

I vote no to word documents. Should be text files, or if formatting is absolutely necessary should be RTF or ODF. PDF would be acceptable as well as long as they are properly formed.

Otherwise, good luck! Looks like a good start!.

Argh, please no doc's. They don't even work well depending on the version you're using.

I also vote no to Word files. It should only be plain text, RTF, or PDF.

Hooray for 1.6MB screenshots of web pages that could instead be saved as-is, for much less space.

Don't forget Domination and relic mods!
I assume you'll also be archiving old versions and source?
Is there any way to make svn do a dump of every revision?
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

Domination and relic mod are inside arcade mod.
You could just ask whoever hosts the repo to just send the whole repo.

More specifically,

Code: [Select]
wget -r http://risujin.org/tremulous/

You could also use curl, but it can't do recursive downloads.

Your developer site list is nice, but you forgot one :o

Sorry about ruining Timbo's secret folder...
I found it, told him about it on IRC, and before I had a chance to download anything, he hid all the cool secret stuff :(

I am looking for a couple more volunteers to help maintain the archive. There are a lot of good things in there, but there could be a lot more.

If you are interested in helping out, please let me know :)
