Question and arguements.
« on: June 18, 2006, 09:11:00 pm »
Hi there.

I've been pondering about the death counter alongside the kill counter on tremulous, and i don't think it's a very good idea.
Primarely because it doesn't always say the truth, because if you deal 80 dmg to a human, and die whilst someone else finishes the job, and you get a high deathcount because of that, could create some false readings on someone's gameplay.

Also, i think this would deminish the team gameplay, primarley because if someone's seeing a player having a high death count and a low kill count in a match, it would start kickvotes, whilst he may have done some crucial actions in the game, which hadn't have anything to do with attacking, and thus he could have a low kill count (basebuilding, attacking enemy's base etc...)

I don't know if / when it's being implented, just that this is my look on the idea, and i think these issues will be happening more frequently if it will be implented.

Anyone that vote kicks someone for a low kill count is a retard.

I would like a scoreboard similar to this: http://koti.mbnet.fi/phap/pickup/usa-pickup3_round3.jpg

These are the scoreboards we gloomers are used to. Above the main mumbo jumbo in the middle are captions detailing Most Kills, Most Spawn Kills, Most Teamkills, and Most Deaths.

I think the above style of scoreboard is better than the current scoreboard, IMO.

What he said.

I'd prefer kill counts be removed altogether. All it does is breed OMFG IM BETTER THAN U LOLZ

Especially since it's not accurate no matter what you do. For example, as a Basilisk I hold people in place while my teammates kill them.

here is the system i propose:

(evolvepoints gained/credits given ratio) deaths time ping
ofc, turn that equation the other way around for humans

that would be great, since killing buildings also gives points.

showing deaths and gained/given ratio would show feeders for what they are, and wouldnt confuse action players for feeders.
not showing kills would probably remove the "OMG u stole my killz0r!!1"

also, you could let defensive structures' kills count on the scoreboard for the builder that made them, which would make the scoreboard an acceptable measure of good builders.

edit: oh, that wouldnt work well for basilisks or builders in love with trapper, but its still better than the current system..

and another thing, the current scoreboard is horrid! having to scroll to see the entire list, wth is that? please make it fullscreen.

I think having a death count beats not having it, due to the extreme feeding some players do getting more kills. While kills are a fair bit more arbitrary in terms of who deserves the credit, deaths are more straightforward; if you die, you fed the enemy credits/evos. Well, except in the case of defensive structure deaths/falling/self-immolation, etc:

So I figure a counter that more accurately represents feeding, as opposed to simply total deaths (which may be trivial). So, a points earned/points fed score might actually be useful, which is what people proposed. Keep the trivial numbers like # of kills/deaths out, and the hard facts about how much fighting power you've earned vs. how much fighting power you gave away should be in.
