It's... It's... A BOT!

Well, we've all been waiting for the first Trem. bot... And finally, Bot's R Us finished the first stable release of Charlie, on tremulous. Yep, where excited too! The website, is not quite done yet, but we'll follow up with more info on that later.

Charlie?
Charlie, is a fully functioning command bot, that understand's over 30,000 different word combinations. He use's stats from a server, to play at the level of other players, and currently is functioning in over 300 games!

When?
Check him out from 6-10 PM (times vary | Central Time) on the "Unlimited BP" server. His offical name, is Charlie_V.2, and he is being tested for the next 5 weeks! Enjoy!


NOTE: The code for charlie has NOT yet been released, due to server issues. You should be able to checkout public svn soon @ http://svn.botsrus.org/trem/release/2/charlie/source

Actually, (as far as I know) I've never heard of a Tremulous bot named Charlie, or anticipated of one. We already had a few bots floating around, but the most popular is Amanieu's bot. Oh well, I can't wait to check this bot out, sounds nice.

It's Amine's bots, not mine. Also, there are the bots on the T servers, but don't have the code released. And then there are the bots in tremfusion, which use the q3 botlib, but are very buggy atm.

Rotacak, your right, the link is dead. Unfortunately running 7 bots and a web server on one server, dosen't work. We're setting up some SVN and web stuff, and hopefully  , we should get it up soon... Don't worry, we'll follow up with the link in this thread...

Your also right, command bots aren't play bots. But luckily Charlie's smart. He can follow commands, AND think on his own. Charlie use's stats of other players, and there movements/shooting average etc., to figure out the best possible level, and intensity to play at. We decided that it would be nice to add in some commands, so players on Charlie's team can tell him what to do; he can't mind read yet!

Okay, so what's gonna happen now? Is tremulous gonna be taken over by bots? Well, no. Sadly, Charlie takes a fair amount of work to run, and needs a good chunk of memory to work, so players shouldn't be seeing the bots allover... yet.

The good news, is that the development of server bots, should lead to a major development of play bots. AKA: In the future tremulous may be single play!

We're working on over 40 different game bots, so be prepared trem players!

i made Bill Cosby spawn on the human team (i made him obviously i didn't actually get him inside my computer) it was funny seeing him shooting my alien killing it, and using my code to tea bag it! finally my personall models can be put to use! Bill Cosby only works on this bot mod though oddly...
