Power Saw: Instructional Vid (v.1)
« on: December 05, 2008, 06:51:58 pm »
Link to file

I would like to present: PsawVid_B1, a work in progress, first edition.

Please share, burn, hack, rip, whatever you want.

Just please let me know (with criticism, constructive or otherwise) on how I can make this better.

These are intended to be very straightforward and base-line strategy, you will not find me theorizing about the chances of hitting a rant with a lucifer cannon or how what the probability of a marauder vs bsuit outcome is.

PLEASE COMMENT!!!

Some problems:
1. It's Pain Saw, not Power Saw
2. The time between instructions is a bit slow
3. Killing the eggs first is a bad idea, it leaves you more open to defending aliens. Going straight behind the OM (after dropping a nade in front, which is an essential part of psaw rushing) protects you from larger aliens, as well as making it easier to saw dretches that will try and kill you (they can only attack you from where you can see them, mostly)
4. Like I said, nades are important. Dropping a nade in front of the OM either kills defenders or makes them stand back while you saw the OM, and can take out/weaken those two eggs if they haven't moved them (which is likely)
5. No mention of how to avoid trappers, or any other sort of post-S1 strategies

It's a good start, but it's far from perfect.

Thanks for responding, Matt.

1. Right there, I'll make sure to correct that in the next one.
2. Again, true, I was told by a friend that I need to make binds for the instructions, the next one will also be much snappier.
3. 4. & 5. The whole point of the psaw rush is that it takes place about 30 seconds into the match, for those that hate ATCS (include me there! :D) you should not be facing goons, maras or anything that could pose a serious threat to the rush (except for sharking dretches). After one salvo of bullets into a dretch onslaught at start, you can get 175 creds, spend these on light armor (to reduce damage from acid tubes and OM) and a psaw and you're ready to go. You won't be facing any trappers (for certain!), goons (if your team has any guns) and you most certainly won't have nades. I'll be sure to have the post-S1 psaw strategies as well though in the next version :).

Again, thanks for responding Matt, I appreciate all criticism and comments.

Alright, it probably would have helped to mention that in your original post or the demo itself ;)
As for the term "psaw rush", I don't think it only applies to the beginning of the game. Then again, I haven't really played in months.

True, usually dretches would start rushing to the human base, especially in ATCS, before they give humans a chance to actually buff their defenses for decent protection. Its almost guaranteed at the start of a game you'll be seeing a few dretches popping up, considering their speed.

If you join humans immediately, you can make it to the second ramp in time to rifle some dretches, than sprint back to base, buy psaw and armor I guess.

Which brings us back to binds. If you have a bind for joining humans and spawning as rifle you gain precious seconds.
New to Tremulous? Look up the Wraths Newbie Server in the in-game server list.

Hi.
Which brings us back to binds. If you have a bind for joining humans and spawning as rifle you gain precious seconds.
Exemple :
Code: [Select]
bind F3 "team humans; class rifle
bind F4 "team humans; class ackit; wait; class ckit //Spawn as ckit possible.

Although it depends on the situation, you can better saw those pretty eggs first.
The aliens won't get a warning if you do so (unlike when you're attacking the om),
and when they do notice that someone is destroying their base, they can't spawn anymore.
