It's not a commercial game, blaze15. Furthermore, it's international, open-source, and not rated by any recognized review boards. Also, Tremulous has a number of mods, each of which might earn it a different rating even if it *were* to be rated as such. Tell your parent(s) there's no blood and gore, but it is a war between gun-toting Marines and vicious extraterrestrial critters so there is some animated violence (but nothing really graphic about it). I'm not one to judge what the equivalent ESRB might be, so I won't hazard a guess.

T would be the best rating for it.

If there should be a rating you are familiar with, its should (in my opinion), rated "T", for mild blood and violence.
But in no way, should any pussy dretch play this game. Tremulous is a game requiring a person to have blobs of steel.  8)

In Germany it would be 18+, just like every game that doesn't explicitly have an other rating. :(

Really depends where you play, and how you feel about different language.  For example:

Within a 5 minute period with some players, you could have heard all sorts of colorful words ranging from the ethnic slur "Nigger," to the provacative term "Cunt," or even the ever popular "Fuck."  To be entirely honest with you, if you're worried about what rating this game might have, you are most likely too soft to enjoy or even survive long in this community.

A friendly tip for if you do decide to play: If a player is saying things that you find offensive, open the console and type "/ignore [all or part of that players name]"

Isn't this only true for commercialy distributed games?

Im not a lawyer, but I think that the rating system applies to all games. But you'll get into trouble only when you sell a game to kids below the rated age, so it sort of doesn't apply to free software. (Most of the law talks about printing the rating number on the medium ("Datenträger" in german), I wonder how this is supposed to work with downloaded software - clueless politicians...)

I believe you can turn the little bloodsplat animations off (or is that a different game?). However, you're unlikely to be able to play thirty seconds without hearing some strong language.

I fail to see how other users online affect a games rating.
By that logic, every game with multiplayer would get a harsh rating, or even banned, someone could have a child porn spray!

TEEN
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.
Rating may change due to content and behavior online.

Taken from http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp. All copyrighted material listed above belongs to them, not actually reated by ESRB nor does ESRB had any trans-actions with Dark legion Development, bla bla bla, etc etc etc.

I think I've summed it up pretty well.

I don't know what sort of backwater, outdated games you play, but most any commercial game I've played online has some form of filter, a "report player" function, as well as moderators who're quite strict about enforcing acceptable conduct.

Please think before you post things... you make yourself look quite foolish.

Actually, a lot of games -- the example in my mind was HL2DM -- mark "Online play rating may change." on the box.
