"Gate" Buildables

This isn't really a full on mod, more like an idea to stick in a mod.

Both teams have a "gate"-like buildable.

Aliens have barricades, and humans have forcefields in KoR's TremX. I figure, "Why not gates?"

They could block the enemy team, but open up when the builder (or his teammates) go to it. Of course, doing that would let the enemy in as well...

10bp oughta work, with...350 HP? (Or however much alien barricades have?)

Also, I think I read somewhere that in 1.2 alien Barricades would open up for the aliens, but until that time comes around (and so humans have this as well), why not a gate buildable to hinder the enemy (temporarily)?

Sounds cool. I'd like preposterous amounts of health for cades and gates, though.

Why would that necessarily make the games hit timelimit? A simple, coordinated attack on multiple fronts would do the trick. No one (usually) is willing to sell their luci for a ckit, and a team with one builder is fairly rare.

The barricades can be used at this time... just go MGdev or PornServ...

We are also using them in TremSpain, and builders can deactivate it by pressing Q.

I like TremX forcefields... but they werent very useful thought

Nope, it's related. The barricades are acting as the gates I suggested, and he is saying where to find them and how to disable the functionality on one of the servers.

The concept sounds interesting, but theres a few things to consider. For the aliens and humans, what will the "gate" look like?

Maybe it should be an actual gate for the humans, maybe make it look high-tech and such. What about for the aliens? Possibly some giant wad of flesh that opens up when entities comes near it.

How big and wide should each gate be? Should it let humans/aliens jump on it and attack from there, or will that introduce more camping? If we don't want that to happen, what will we do to stop humans/aliens from getting on it? Theres several ways of doing so, humans and aliens could build structures to make a staircase to it, or jumping off a ledge and landing on the top could do it. Maybe make humans/aliens get hurt when they're on it, or just leave the gate to be stood on?

What about structures? Can people build structures on it/around it? For the aliens, should the dretch class be able to attack it, because in some servers the dretch isn't allowed to do damage on structures like the arm or the turret.

Dretch can attack the turrets in 1.1, and they cant even do that in 1.2! If dretches could attack the arm in 1.1, I'd really hate that since behind the arm is usually a blind spot in my bases ( :'( )

But the dretch is underpowered, so it sort of needs an edge. Unless you've got 5 smart dretches heading your way. Then press your /kill bind and hope for the best.
