QUAKE LIVE
« on: February 15, 2009, 09:04:05 am »
Quake Live Is freely available, updated version of QUAKE III Arena that you access and play through your web browser.

Ran a fast test online, and it runs almost as nice as trem.
Just an idea thats way,way out there. Imagine playing trem anywhere from the broswer?
anyways i like the idea, and if id decides to make this opensource would you neato devs add this into tremulous?

id will not release the source code to qlive, and even if they did it takes a huge amount of resources that trem doesn't have to run all the servers.

And even if such an ambitious idea would be taken to action by the ideas, theres problems like compatibility (Like my PC), lag issues (Theres lag issues even on the program version, just imagine what could happen) and bugs. Tremulous takes up more resources then the normal Q3 (Depending on the scenario of the game), so it'll be a hassle thus showing why this cannot be done.

I don't like it. The mouse is horrible and the gameplay is jagged and warpy.

What's wrong with releasing Quake 3 for free?

They just want to look l33t and show everybody how awesome they are putting up their 10 year old game online while sticking up ads in-game. Else there wouldn't be much reason to put up thier game online.

That's rich in the forum of a l33t 7 years old online game ;-)

anyways Quakelive is nice.

Due to his lag, Kaleo is probably the only dude out there with worse accuracy percentage than mine XD

It wasn't lag though. It was choppy gameplay, that's the problem.

We all know how Firefox hogs up the RAM.  Use lynx instead. It's very light weight.

If I meant FPS lag, I would've said it was FPS lag.

It's choppy; my framerate and ping were fine. The game was just choppy.

Nah, the choppy gameplay is on ATI machines too.  The whole premise is a mess, IMO.  They should have at least updated the renderer...it looks so dated.

I played it for a little bit today. Wouldn't go any higher than 1024x768 so I closed it.

Quake Live fails. You might as well play Open Arena, seriously.

I don't know why they didn't just re-release Vanilla Q3.

qft. just throw some nice new bits in the renderer, basically take ioq3's fixes? maybe keep the web interface for server browsing?

Rather just play straight Q3.
