Advanceed Tyrant
« on: February 17, 2009, 04:46:07 am »
I'm sorry if there is already a post on this issue.
But I'm  wondering that all aliens have an advanced form except Tyrants. So why not
have an advanced Tyrant with more health, two heads, healing aura and more damage. It would equal out the alien team since
they don't have guns or Armour.

Been there, done that, it didn't work.
Adding new massively powerful things has a tendency to unbalance things.

TremX added an Adv Tryant, but that didn't even pretend to be balanced.
I think wireddd is trying to make a more balanced version, poke around in mod releases or wherever

Yup... that thing was even harder to chase down and eliminate then the original and it was totally worth the 9 evos it costed, also when boosted it had a ranged attack capable of taking out an entire human base if it was built compact... (well shields could defend the base but that stuff costed too much) - not sure if the current TremX version is like this though.

anyway TremX is awesome if you have a human team that knows when and how to do stuff properly... like not infecting the whole team with medistation camping, etc... ;D

Why not have a weaker version is S2?

Why not give the humans an insta-win nuke?

The question you should ask, is why *should* you do that?

+Edit. Because you can? I don't care, I didn't start the thread. I'm just suggesting what could be done to get an "adv" tyrant without introducing super-powerful units.

Think about the characteristics of the existing units for a moment.

What is the rant about? Big, can't jump much, lots of HP, powerful slash. The powerful attack and high HP balances with the relative lack of mobility and big target. You touch any of these alone and you get an unbalanced unit.

To adapt the rant to S2, if you make it "weaker", which means lower the HP and damage, you also need to push up the mobility (I'm guessing you don't want to touch the size ie. bounding box). So you get a rant with lower HP, weaker damage, who can jump and move faster.

Sound familiar? To me it looks like the normal goon, only bigger and not quite as fast. I for one don't see the point of a 3rd, fatter, slower goon.

The size alone makes it unworkable. The rant is so big that the moment it enters a base everything and everybody will shoot (and hit) it, from turrets to the builder's blaster. So the high HP is a must have and even so the player needs to estimate very well when it's time to withdraw (if he wasn't on a suicide run). In fact, one might argue that the whole raison d'etre of the rant is as a heavy assault unit.

While there certainly exist drawbacks to being the more bulky aliens, it's not completely true that if you change just one aspect it will create imbalance. Bear in mind that the Adv. forms need to have some sort of return for the evo investment. This could be given in the form of a single upgrade to one attribute. It's just a lot more interesting to give greater upgrades to a number attributes (e.g. running speed, slashing rate, heath etc.) and then add some small disadvantage (larger hitbox) to compensate for it.

Why not balance the human portion introducing laser gun turrets or Rocket launchers? :turret:

I want humans to have alien heat seaking rocket launchers that do 800 direct damage with area spread decreasing in small portions for twice the length of amine's proximity mines.  Then give aliens flying tyrants with unlimited acid barbs and 1000 hp that one hit fly maul battle suits to counter.  Then put everything in space, and start giving them yellow hair, and then make the maps the size of galaxies, because the super tyrants and the new 15k damage nukes destory single planets in one hit.  Then name Ozzy goku and kill him 14 times.

Nice idea, but I'm worried about potential balance issues.

Its very obvious neither of you have played on tremx in a LONG time. They have just recently overhauled their entire mod and it is very much so balanced. And yes, they adv Rant does have 1 barb it can shoot that ONLY regenerates when hes been to a boost but it cant destroy 1 building, it can kill anyone with only larmour or none at all and does splash damage but it cant destroy a base.

EDIT:
Thats rant looks 1337 Archangle

But, I have to agree, Trepidus is pretty well balanced. I had a lot of fun playing it.

If you want to argue semantics, Trepidus/korx may be well balanced (I never played either) but tremx isn't.

Unless you like having your teammates bringing their alien AIDS into the base infecting everybody. -.-

Heh, I remembered playing with that updated mod a long time ago in a retarded map, but the rant can use the barb to do immense splash damage on structures, if I remembered correctly.

@David It is very balanced, I think your just a noob player at it. The point isn't to find out if TremX is balanced or not, the point is that an Advanced Tyrant would be a really good add for Tremulous and even if the one on TremX wasn't balanced, it can defiantly be made balanced.

Also, Korx doesn't exist, KoR is the clan that made TremX

@Hendrich Their new mod release only just came out like 2 weeks ago. And this update made it do splash to buildings yes but it stills doesnt do very much and it doesnt regenerate unless they have poisen and even then the regen is slow.

wrong, f0rqu3 (aka vcxzet aka biotxc aka too many more to list) created tremx long before kor existed. recently wireddd spent a lot of time cleaning up and rebalancing tremx (the mod was named korx for a short time)

I know this isn't a serious threat....

I hate rants and I hate luci's.  They are cool for the setting of the game but suck in public games.

I would rather have an alien with goon damage and pouncing but basilisk size.
Humans, I'd rather a jetpack that thrusts rather than hovers.

wrong, f0rqu3 (aka vcxzet ...)

OMFG f0rqu3==vcsxzet ? :o

holy cow, I always thought they were 2 people and wasn't sure who developed tremx.

korX(or whatever it is called now) is more balanced in that way its more default tremulous than tremX - i mean, less infection ("OMG gat away from meh nooobz you got AIDS!!!1!") i mean less powerfull, adv dretches don't deal as much damage as they did, shootie gren's don't really kick ass anymore... and adv Tyrants - they don't even have to spit acid because no one is impressed by it. The only thing that is really cool is per 1hp regeneration - i was and I still am fan of the good old tremX, because it was cool the way it was "unbalanced" - in fact it wasn't so unbalanced it just needed more skills and its gameplay differed from regular one(humies were more mobile - i still remember cloak building(run, turn on cloak, run more, build rep if safe, recharge cloak, run even more - place new base :D , that was just epic).  Sad thing about tremX is that luci didn't get anything, so it was kinda useless :(
