I'm allowed to complain about how inconsiderate you (and others) are being. A lot of people are putting a lot of work into the release. So yes, I'm being pretentious, but you're being a jerk. :)

Note: This is my last post on the topic since we are badly derailing a thread.

I wanted to point out how pointless(for an official dev team member) to waste his/her time on reorganizing the forum(which is a tedious job), while there is a new release to be completed. They always prioritized forum and website over the game itself which, I believe, led to delays in the game development. But sorry I shouldn't have cared.

Fun fact: Different people do different jobs!
You don't know anything about tremulous development, and I'd bet you don't know anything about game or open source development at all.

So do fell free to tell volunteers - who give their time freely - that their contributions are useless, I'm sure the moral boost will do wonders for getting 1.2 released.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I'm disappointed that people's past actions have forced me to state what should be obvious.

actually I do. Different people do different jobs. no! it causes chaos. each member have multiple tasks. and some of those overlap at some point. Each member knows what others are doing.
This is a different type of multitasking for opensource games. Don't take it wrong
A coder can also act as a content creator. An artist can help coding/scripting
Open source game development is about multitasking, you give higher priority to more important tasks. Tremulous never got it right.
If the sole purpose of ingar in this project is regulating the forum then there is no problem
anyway you can continue to make bold claims and pretend you know all about (open source)game dev.

I said different people do different jobs, I didn't say they don't communicate and work together.

And if you think a coder can just grab a copy of blender a produce quality work, or a artist can just start coding in C, then you really haven't a clue.

If I turned up in your house and started rearranging the furniture, you'd get pissed at me.  You've not even been here a day and don't have a clue how things work or what's left to be done.  Basically you're just an arrogant brat who thinks he's god, or a troll.  Either way FOAD.

I was talking specifically about open source development. and yes a programmer can model and create textures... don't confuse it with commercial game development where coder just codes. This approach won't work with open source games. And an artist... even he can't code in C instantly he can do some basic scripting/modifications.

prent: GTFO troll. You obviously know absolutely nothing about Tremulous development nor community. Nor are you contributing in any way.

On Topic - Congratz on the Promotion to forum God... lol

As far as prent - I have seen what the dev structure looks like (at least in our server group) and there is a fairly large breakdown in the structure -

1. Coders
2. Mappers
3. Artists
4. Sometimes Scripters have to be used seperately
5. Testers I say this because sometimes that is just necessary to make sure it works before releasing the finished product - Who likes bugs? No one does so they get certain people to test it.
6. Any other Dev component insert here....

So prent, you act as if you are THE expert on open source games.... What projects have YOU worked for and how successful were they? Specific names, and proof of contribution required to convince The Luciman and 99% of the threm.net forums, which, while they are a very tough group to a)convince and b)appease they are not complete idiots that you make them out to be. They may be punks at times, but they are part of the Trem community... So be fair - They are not retards, or idiots, just sometimes rather narrow minded, as I can be as well ;)

The forum and the website are very important, as they represent Tremulous' face towards the world.
Letting the forum linger and rot until after the 1.2 release would have resulted in an unsurmountable cleanup task.

From the reactions I received, I'd say it has been far from useless.

Also, I actually prefer C++ over vanilla C, besides the occasional patch, I don't feel any particular incentive to
get intimatly acquainted with the tremulous code base.

@prent:
I don't appreciate you trolling my threads forum.

I couldnt agree more, and while I am skeptical of 1.2, I hate to see the amount of trem sites and forums etc that are gone. There used to be such a vibrant community and they just started to crumble.

Keeping the ENTIRE Trem structure together is  vital to its survival... I know of 3 major Tremulous Dedicated forums...

1. Trem.net
2. Xserverx.com
3. WTF Server group

I spend more time on one versus the other two, (Its obvious which one) but the sad fact is most other servers and groups etc have sparse if any community building skills... Keep the forum up and going strong... We must keep the community alive, for with out it, Trem dies.

Idea Alert - A forum theme change, while upsetting to the old timers and trollz would be a refreshing change to these forums... The are... Always the same.... Just an Idea....

True, but who says everyone has to use it? There could be an option on the profile page to use the classic theme. Or better yet, multiple themes, and everyone can pick the one they like best (a lot of forums work like this).

ok, can you give me the tool thingy app that can code?

Hence another good Idea... That is perfect to use that solution... Same thing as I was suggesting just allows those who want to use whatever they want to make the forums look better... Thanks for that, I forgot about multiple themes LOL

Besides, I am still waiting on him to prove he has done ANYTHING... You think he will ever show anything?

wow I was looking for some good discussion and you turned this into trollfest
@lucifer666s8n  you are talking about commercial game development which has those jobs assigned to professional paid individuals. This approach makes no sense in open source game development. It just makes your game die faster than you expect.
Also I don't need to prove anything(I don't want to tell the name of the project but I have some experience with game development fyi). If you think I am wrong you are free to prove me wrong. Until then

Yep being the "JACK OF ALL TRADES" can happen but you need to be really good or more than likely will become only mediocre at everything, most people specialize eventually.
I'm into Blender and am trying to branch out into coding,
but I have a strange feeling I will only be good at a few things not every genera.
